8.7.2026 | On 17 June 2026, the European Commission published the annual State of the Digital Decade report. According to the report, Finland is a digital frontrunner with strong digital skills, agile enterprises and leadership in artificial intelligence and supercomputing. On 7 July 2026, the Digital Decade Board published its opinion ‘A common orientation for the review of the Digital Decade Policy Programme’. The process to prepare certain sections of the opinion was led by Finland.

The efficiency of communications networks affects people’s daily lives, the operating environment of businesses and the ability of authorities to carry out their duties also during disruptions.

1.6.2026 | The 2026 National Cyber Security Exercise for state administration organizations was held from 25 to 29 May. In the exercise, the aim was to influence citizen services through cyber-attacks using real-world threat actor tactics and techniques.

22.5.2025 | On 20 May 2025, the European Commission published a delegated regulation that creates a separate vehicle sub-group for extra-heavy combination lorries to the EU’s CO2 emission performance standards regulation for the calculation of CO2 emission targets of vehicle manufacturers. Finland was active in influencing the process in advance to define extra-heavy combination lorries (EHC).

12.2.2025 | Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communications Minna Kivimäki, together with the Ministry’s senior public officials, is visiting Brussels on 11–13 February 2025 to influence various EU processes.

15.10.2024 | Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communications Minna Kivimäki will visit Brussels on 16–18 October 2024 to influence various EU processes. During the visit, Kivimäki will meet European Commission representatives and Finnish MPEs.

24.2.2026 | Minister of Transport and Communications Lulu Ranne will travel to Brussels on 24–26 February 2026 to meet key representatives of the European Parliament and of the European Commission.

5.3.2024 | Permanent Secretary Minna Kivimäki will visit Brussels on 6–8 March 2024. The aim of the visit is to exert influence on the future work programme of the European Commission.

18.2.2026 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications published a memorandum on 18 February 2026 on the current state, outlook and measures to boost the competitiveness of the domestic media sector. At the same time, the Ministry of Transport and Communications is launching the preparation of a non-recurring state aid package for the Finnish News Agency STT.

31.8.2023 | The Government submitted a Union communication to Parliament on the European Commission's proposal for amending the Weights and Dimensions Directive.  The proposal is in line with the main objectives of Finland’s proactive efforts to exert influence on the matter.

13.10.2023 | Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communications Minna Kivimäki will exert influence on EU decision-making in Brussels on 16–18 October 2023. 

25.9.2023 | Permanent Secretary Minna Kivimäki will visit Paris on 25–26 September 2023 to exert influence on EU decision-making. Kivimäki will meet representatives of OECD and the International Transport Forum as well as the ministries responsible for transport and communications matters, for example.

28.1.2026 | On 28 January 2026, the Ministry of Transport and Communications published an interim review of the project on security and new economic growth from communication networks, known as the TUUTTI project. The review outlines the project’s progress and presents the key findings to date.

3.10.2025 | Permanent Secretary of the Finnish Ministry of Transport and Communications Minna Kivimäki will visit Cyprus on 6–7 October 2025.

27.10.2025 | Tero Jokilehto, Senior Ministerial Adviser at the Finnish Ministry of Transport and Communications, has been elected chair of the Inland Surface Transport Group for the next three years. The Inland Surface Transport Group is a sub-group of the Transport Group, which is one of the planning groups under NATO’s Resilience Committee. 

20.3.2023 | Permanent Secretary Minna Kivimäki will visit Brussels on 20-22 March 2023 to exert influence on EU decision-making. She will meet, among others, representatives of the European Commission. Items on the agenda include topical and future transport and communications initiatives and projects.
