Permanent Secretary Kivimäki to exert influence on EU decision-making during visit to Brussels

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communications Minna Kivimäki will exert influence on EU decision-making in Brussels on 16–18 October 2023. 

During her visit, Kivimäki will meet with Magda Kopczynska, Director-General of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport to discuss topical transport issues and the new Commission’s possible agenda for the transport sector. 

She will also meet with Heads of Cabinet Juraj Nociar and Taneli Lahti from Commissioner Sefcovic’s and Commissioner Urpilainen’s cabinets. The programme for her visit will include a meeting with Elisabeth Werner, Deputy Director General of the Secretariat-General of the European Commission, and meetings with the Commission’s Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology. The meetings will focus on EU transport, communications, digitalisation and data policy issues that are important for Finland with respect to both the current and new European Commission.

While in Brussels, Kivimäki will also meet with Permanent Secretary Séverine Waterbley from the Belgian Ministry of Economic Affairs and Permanent Secretary Emmanuelle Vandamme from the Belgian Ministry of Transport. Their discussions will focus on the forthcoming Belgian Presidency of the Council of the EU, Finland and Belgium’s views on the new Commission’s policy programme, and topical issues in the communications and transport policy sectors. 

In addition, Kivimäki will discuss topical NATO issues in the sector of the Ministry of Transport and Communications in meetings with Ambassador Piritta Asunmaa, Head of Finland’s Mission to NATO and Christian Lifländer, Head of NATO’s Cyber and Hybrid Policy Section, among others.
