  3. 16.12.2025 | At the Energy Council meeting on 15 December 2025, Member States of the European Union adopted a partial general approach on the proposed regulation establishing Connecting Europe Facility for 2028–2034. Finland is in favour of the regulation’s emphasis on military mobility.

  4. 12.9.2024 | On 12 September 2024, the Government submitted a Union communication to Parliament outlining its positions on the Commission’s proposals for new Guidelines on State aid for land and multimodal transport and a new Transport Block Exemption Regulation.   5. 13.11.2025 | The Finnish Government submitted a communication to Parliament on 13 November 2025 regarding the European Commission’s proposal for a Regulation on the Connecting Europe Facility for the period 2028–2034. The Government welcomes the proposal and emphasises that funding should be more strongly directed towards strengthening defence and security, among other sectors.

  6. 16.6.2025 | On 16 June 2025, the Ministerial Committee on Economic Policy decided that the central government would continue its preparations for the competitive tendering of publicly funded passenger rail services. The current contract with VR Group is due to expire at the end of 2030, with a new contract period of about ten years scheduled to start on 1 January 2031.

  7. 28.12.2023 | The President of the Republic has approved the amendments to the Vessel Traffic Service Act, the Ship Safety Control Act and the Act on the Enforcement of a Fine. Most of the amendments will enter into force on 1 January 2024.

  10. 21.11.2024 | On 21 November 2024, the Government submitted to Parliament its proposal to amend the budget proposal for 2025. The Government proposes funding for the Digirail project, which involves the modernisation of Finland's rail traffic control system, and several rail, urban tramline and road projects. The Government also proposes EUR 400 million for the construction of West Railway, subject to certain conditions.

  11. 13.11.2024 | On 13 November 2024, the Ministry of Transport and Communications published the national programme on the distribution infrastructure for alternative fuels. The programme, which was drawn up in broad-based cooperation with stakeholders, facilitates the implementation of EU regulation.

  13. 3.9.2024 | In 2025, the Government will launch several important transport infrastructure projects across Finland. The decision on new infrastructure investments was reached today, 3 September, in the government budget session.

  15. 19.6.2024 | Finland has won the European Transport Safety Council’s (ETSC) Road Safety Prize for 2024. The prize was awarded for the long-term and effective road safety work and the comprehensive strategy and measures to improve the safety of all road users. This is the first time Finland receives the prize.

  17. 10.10.2024 | The Government proposes funding for the establishment of the Finnish Space Situational Awareness Centre. Funding is proposed for the administrative branches of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. The Ministry of Transport and Communications share of the funding amounts to EUR 411 000.

  18. 10.4.2024 | The Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) is defined in the new Regulation on European Union guidelines for the development of the TEN-T network. The regulation also lays down provisions on the quality requirements for the network corridors and transport nodes. On 10 April 2024, the Ministry of Transport and Communications published maps showing Finland’s TEN-T network in accordance with the new Regulation.

  19. 2.9.2025 | The Government of Prime Minister Petteri Orpo has reached a decision on its budget proposal for 2026. The Government’s decisions aim to support economic growth, which is picking up. Supporting economic growth and continuing responsible fiscal management is necessary to ensure the security of people in Finland and safeguard their access to important services going forward.

  20. 24.1.2024 | Finland has successfully applied for EU funding from the European Commission, which awarded EUR 39.45 million from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) to seven military mobility projects in Finland. As the sum applied for was EUR 43.16 million, this call for proposals was a great success for Finland.
