17.6.2026 | Secure and reliable communications networks are the foundation of functionality of society, security of supply, investments and growth of the data economy. The efficiency of communications networks affects people’s daily lives, the operating environment of businesses and the ability of authorities to carry out their duties also during disruptions.

28.1.2026 | On 28 January 2026, the Ministry of Transport and Communications published an interim review of the project on security and new economic growth from communication networks, known as the TUUTTI project. The review outlines the project’s progress and presents the key findings to date.

2.9.2025 | The Government of Prime Minister Petteri Orpo has reached a decision on its budget proposal for 2026. The Government’s decisions aim to support economic growth, which is picking up. Supporting economic growth and continuing responsible fiscal management is necessary to ensure the security of people in Finland and safeguard their access to important services going forward.

8.4.2026 | Minister of Transport and Communications Lulu Ranne and Minister of Economic Affairs Sakari Puisto hosted a roundtable discussion on the competitiveness and security of Finland’s ports on 7 April 2026.

3.3.2026 | Finland has joined the Global Coalition on Telecommunications (GCOT) in connection with the Barcelona Mobile World Congress. The congress also saw the release of the GCOT’s principles for security and resilience in 6G, which Finland supports.

3.9.2024 | The 2025 budget proposal of Prime Minister Orpo's Government bolsters conditions for economic growth. Economic growth driven by the private sector will also serve to secure the financing base for central government finances. The fast-acting measures to curb indebtedness that were decided on due to the difficult situation in central government finances will move forward.

13.10.2025 | To support the preparation of the project "Security and new economic growth from information networks" (TUUTTI), the Ministry of Transport and Communications invited comments on the project's key needs and themes. The consultation was open from 19 June to 31 August 2025.  On 13 October 2025, the Ministry published a summary of the 33 comments received.

19.9.2023 | In its first budget session, the Government of Prime Minister Petteri Orpo decided on solutions that will return Finland to a sustainable growth track. The Government will launch structural reforms to boost employment and growth, which will have positive impacts on general government finances in the next few years. In addition, the Government decided on consolidation measures.

21.5.2025 | Cyprus and Finland are EU partners with strong maritime traditions and a shared interest in the advancement of European and global efforts to ensure that the future of maritime transport will be sustainable, safe, resilient and competitive.

17.6.2025 | On 17 June 2025, the Ministry of Transport and Communications published the national 6G roadmap to promote sixth-generation communications technologies. The roadmap sets milestones for the development and implementation of next-generation mobile communication technologies in the 2030s.

20.9.2023 | The Government has agreed on the 2024 budget proposal and the second supplementary budget proposal for 2023. The Government agreed to make rapid progress on transport investments. The Government also decided to continue support for regional air services.

10.6.2025 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications has published a monitoring report on the impacts of the legislative amendments that were needed to implement the Directive establishing the European Electronic Communications Code (EECC), or Telecoms Directive. The report also includes data on the achievement of the related regulatory objectives. The EECC regulates electronic communications (telecoms) networks and services.

16.4.2025 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications has launched preparations for a new period of network and programming licences for terrestrial television. The new licence period should start on 11 January 2027.

27.5.2025 | On 5 March 2025, the European Commission gave two Communications: one on an industrial action plan for the European automotive sector and one on the decarbonisation of corporate fleets. The Ministry of Transport and Communications informed the Parliament of Finland of the Action Plan for the automotive industry on 9 May 2025 and of the Communication on the decarbonisation of corporate fleets on 26 May 2025.

21.11.2024 | On 21 November 2024, the Government submitted to Parliament its proposal to amend the budget proposal for 2025. The Government proposes funding for the Digirail project, which involves the modernisation of Finland's rail traffic control system, and several rail, urban tramline and road projects. The Government also proposes EUR 400 million for the construction of West Railway, subject to certain conditions.

4.9.2024 | The Government will continue to reduce the growth of repair backlog in transport infrastructure. In its budget session on 3 September 2024, the Government agreed to propose EUR 200 million for reducing the repair backlog in 2025.

1.9.2022 | The budget proposal for 2023 of Prime Minister Sanna Marin’s Government builds sustainable growth for the future, secures purchasing power and assists people with the hike in electricity prices. The budget proposal responds to the effects of Russia’s war of aggression and inflation, improves safety and security, security of supply, and energy self-sufficiency, and provides further investment in research and development and in the green transition.
