    30.6.2026 | On 30 June 2026, Finland deposited its instrument of accession to the International Convention on Liability and Compensation for Damage in Connection with the Carriage of Hazardous and Noxious Substances by Sea (HNS Convention). The Convention strengthens the right of injured parties to compensation for damage caused by the carriage of hazardous and noxious substances by sea and complements the international maritime liability and compensation regime.

  16. Coastal States of the Baltic Sea and the North Sea: Safety risks in navigation increased by GNSS interference - Ministry of Transport and Communications

    26.1.2026 | On 26 January 2026, Finland and 13 other European countries published a letter to the International Maritime Community on the safety and security risks caused by Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) interference. The signatories of the letter include the coastal states of the Baltic Sea and the North Sea: Finland, Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Sweden and the United Kingdom as well as Iceland.

  17. Finnish operators apply for more than EUR 26 million of EU funding for digital infrastructure projects - Ministry of Transport and Communications

    25.6.2026 | A total of approximately EUR 17.6 million in funding from the European Commission’s Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) is being sought for Finnish-led projects. In addition, approximately EUR 8.6 million in funding is being sought for Swedish-led projects that involve Finnish operators. The Ministerial Finance Committee decided in favour of the applications on 25 June 2026.

  18. Joint Nordic Strategy for Transport System Preparedness published – closer cooperation for stronger critical connectivity - Ministry of Transport and Communications

    11.3.2026 | Finland’s Ministry of Transport and Communications published a Joint Nordic Strategy for Transport System Preparedness on 11 March 2026. The strategy was handed over to the Nordic transport ministers in Rovaniemi where the ministers also issued a joint statement. As part of their meeting, the ministers will also visit the multinational Cold Response 26 military exercise in Lapland on 12 March 2026.

    14.5.2019 | Kommunikationsministeriet har skickat på remiss förslag till lagar genom vilka Finland föreslås tillträda HNS-konventionen om ansvar och ersättning för skada i samband med sjötransporter. Om konventionen ratificeras ökar fartygsägarnas ansvar vid sjötransport av farliga och skadliga ämnen och de skadelidande tryggas snabbare ersättning med större omfattning.
