On 19 February 2026, the Finnish Government submitted a legislative proposal to Parliament on amending the legislation on devices intended for deliberate radio interference, also known as jammers. The amendments would be made to the Act on Electronic Communications Services.

On 5 March 2026, the Government submitted to Parliament a proposal on approving the amendments made to the international Convention on Road Signs and Signals. The amendments would have only minor effects in Finland.

27.10.2025 | Tero Jokilehto, Senior Ministerial Adviser at the Finnish Ministry of Transport and Communications, has been elected chair of the Inland Surface Transport Group for the next three years. The Inland Surface Transport Group is a sub-group of the Transport Group, which is one of the planning groups under NATO’s Resilience Committee. 

24.10.2025 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications has submitted draft decrees concerning the fees charged for the services provided by the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom, the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency, and the Finnish Meteorological Institute for comments. These decrees would replace the current ones, which will expire on 31 December 2025.

2.10.2025 | The Government submitted to Parliament on 2 October 2025 a legislative proposal on cross-border taxi services between Finland and Norway. In Finland, the proposal implements the agreement on international taxi transport services between the two countries.

22.9.2025 | On 22 September 2025, the Government submitted to Parliament a legislative proposal concerning a fixed-term scrapping premium for passenger cars. Scrapping premiums could be applied for concerning the period 1 October 2025–31 December 2027. Applications could be submitted when the act is in force. The act is proposed to enter into force on 1 January 2026.

2.4.2024 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications requests comments on the national adoption of convention amendments adopted by the Maritime Safety Committee of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The amendments concern the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW). The deadline for submitting comments is 19 April 2024.

12.6.2025 | On 12 June 2025, the Government submitted a proposal to Parliament to amend the Act on Transport Services. The proposal would grant municipalities, joint municipal and other regional authorities the possibility to arrange passenger train services in their regions. It would also put in grounds to make changes to the regional competence on local rail transport.

18.9.2023 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications requests comments on the national adoption of convention amendments adopted by the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The amendments have been made to the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL) and the International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships' Ballast Water and Sediments. The deadline for submitting comments is 3 October 2023. 

16.4.2025 | On 16 April 2025, the Government submitted to Parliament a proposal on legislation complementing the European Media Freedom Act, EMFA. The Act aims to safeguard the pluralism and independence of media services in the EU and reinforce the common rules for the functioning of the internal market for media services.

31.10.2024 | On 31 October 2024, the Government submitted to Parliament a legislative proposal to amend the Act on the State Television and Radio Fund. The amendment would freeze the annual index increases to funding of the Finnish Broadcasting Company, YLE. The proposal implements the policies of the parliamentary YLE working group.

11.9.2024 | The work of the Saimaa Canal Advisory Board will be suspended for the time being. The Advisory Board has not met since Russia launched its war of aggression in Ukraine.

16.5.2024 | On 16 May 2024, the Government discussed the national adoption of convention amendments adopted by the Maritime Safety Committee of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The amendments allow the introduction of electronic certificates of competency for seafarers.

29.8.2024 | On 23 May 2024, the Government submitted a legislative proposal to Parliament on amending the Aviation Act and on related acts. 

8.5.2024 | On 8 May 2024, the Government submitted a legislative proposal to Parliament on amending the Act on Fixed-Term Subsidies for the Purchase of Vehicles Powered by Alternative Fuels.

20.10.2023 | On 19 and 20 October 2023, the Government and the President of the Republic discussed the national approval of amendments made to conventions adopted by the Marine Environment Protection Committee of the International Maritime Organization, IMO. 30.10.2023 | The European Commission is preparing a draft Implementing Regulation on considering the emission standards for cars and light-duty commercial vehicles running on carbon neutral fuels in the type approvals. The Ministry of Transport and Communications informed Parliament of the upcoming initiative on 27 October 2023.
