  6. 27.10.2025 | Tero Jokilehto, Senior Ministerial Adviser at the Finnish Ministry of Transport and Communications, has been elected chair of the Inland Surface Transport Group for the next three years. The Inland Surface Transport Group is a sub-group of the Transport Group, which is one of the planning groups under NATO’s Resilience Committee.

  9. 22.9.2025 | On 22 September 2025, the Government submitted to Parliament a legislative proposal concerning a fixed-term scrapping premium for passenger cars. Scrapping premiums could be applied for concerning the period 1 October 2025–31 December 2027. Applications could be submitted when the act is in force. The act is proposed to enter into force on 1 January 2026.

  10. 2.4.2024 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications requests comments on the national adoption of convention amendments adopted by the Maritime Safety Committee of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The amendments concern the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW). The deadline for submitting comments is 19 April 2024.

  11. 12.6.2025 | On 12 June 2025, the Government submitted a proposal to Parliament to amend the Act on Transport Services. The proposal would grant municipalities, joint municipal and other regional authorities the possibility to arrange passenger train services in their regions. It would also put in grounds to make changes to the regional competence on local rail transport.

  13. 16.4.2025 | On 16 April 2025, the Government submitted to Parliament a proposal on legislation complementing the European Media Freedom Act, EMFA. The Act aims to safeguard the pluralism and independence of media services in the EU and reinforce the common rules for the functioning of the internal market for media services.

  14. 31.10.2024 | On 31 October 2024, the Government submitted to Parliament a legislative proposal to amend the Act on the State Television and Radio Fund. The amendment would freeze the annual index increases to funding of the Finnish Broadcasting Company, YLE. The proposal implements the policies of the parliamentary YLE working group.
