The Government withdraws its proposal submitted to Parliament on 21 August 2025 for legislation supplementing the EU Gigabit Infrastructure Act. On 26 March 2026, the Government submitted a communication to Parliament on the withdrawal of the proposal.

Finland is actively involved in international efforts to keep shipping and the marine environment safe in the Baltic Sea.

The Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom has completed the Port State Control (PSC) inspection of the Eagle S and detained the ship.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications is finalising the government proposal to amend taxi regulation. Next, the proposal will be reviewed by the Finnish Council of Regulatory Impact Analysis, translated and submitted to legislative editing. The aim is to submit the government proposal to Parliament in spring 2026.

13.5.2025 | Transport ministers of Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden and Denmark will meet on 13–14 May 2025 in Helsinki. They will issue a joint statement on military mobility and security of supply.

13.10.2025 | To support the preparation of the project "Security and new economic growth from information networks" (TUUTTI), the Ministry of Transport and Communications invited comments on the project's key needs and themes. The consultation was open from 19 June to 31 August 2025.  On 13 October 2025, the Ministry published a summary of the 33 comments received.

19.11.2025 | Minister of Transport and Communications Lulu Ranne participated in the Summit on European Digital Sovereignty in Berlin on 18 November 2025. Finland also signed the Declaration for European Digital Sovereignty initiated by Austria and published in connection with the summit.

24.11.2025 | The Assembly of the International Maritime Organization IMO will meet in London from 24 November to 3 December 2025. Finland is a candidate for re-election as a member of the IMO Council. The Assembly will vote on the members of the new Council on Friday 28 November 2025.

5.11.2025 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications requests comments on the draft spectrum decree and the draft call for applications on network licences for terrestrial television. Statements on the draft spectrum decree can be submitted until 26 November 2025 and on the draft call for applications on network licences for terrestrial television until 10 December 2025.

2.6.2023 | Finland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Pekka Haavisto and United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken signed a Joint Statement on Cooperation in Advanced Wireless Communications between Finland and the United States in Helsinki on 2 June. In the Joint Statement, Finland and the United States confirm their common ambition to cooperate in key areas of 6G research and development and to increase interaction between Finnish and US actors.

15.7.2025 | The Council of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) met for its 134th session in London on 7–11 July 2025. Finland has been a member of the Council during the current term 2024–2025.

27.6.2025 | The President of the Republic approved the legislative amendments on aviation on 27 June 2025. The amendments aim to improve aviation safety and security. The Acts will enter into force on 1 September 2025.

3.4.2025 | The draft National Transport System Plan, or the draft Transport 12 Plan, and the related environmental report, were circulated for comments from 20 December 2024 to 5 March 2025. A total of 250 comments were received. Overall the update was largely considered appropriate in relation to the changes that have taken place in the operating environment.

3.2.2021 | On 3 February 2021, the Ministry of Transport and Communications sent a proposal for a government resolution on improving the effectiveness of digitalisation in the logistics sector. The draft resolution outlines the Government's measures concerning the digitalisation of logistics, which will implement the objectives of the Logistics Digitalisation Strategy published in October 2020.

14.11.2022 | The Technology Advisory Board, the Parliamentary Working Group on Research, Development and Innovation, the Working Group on Sustainable Growth, and the Artificial Intelligence 4.0 programme have published a joint call to the current Government and future governments. The chairpersons of the working groups are very concerned about Finland’s future.
