The Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) will meet in London from 27 April to 1 May 2026. IMO Member States are expected to decide the next steps in negotiations on reducing greenhouse gas emissions from shipping. 26.11.2025 | In 2024, the European Union adopted a directive amending the Directive on ship-source pollution. Haastavien neuvottelujen ja harvinaisen äänestyksen päätteeksi Kansainvälisessä merenkulkujärjestössä lykättiin pitkään neuvotellun meriliikenteen päästösääntelyn lopullista hyväksyntää vähintään vuodella. The 82nd session of the Committee continued negotiations on global measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from marine transport. Following complex negotiations and a rare vote, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) decided to postpone the final adoption of the long-discussed regulation package on maritime transport emissions by at least one year. The Legal Committee of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) met in London on 24–28 March 2025. The meeting discussed measures to prevent illegal operations by vessels belonging to the shadow fleet. 29.2.2024 | On 15 February 2024, the Member States, Parliament and Commission of the European Union reached a preliminary agreement on amendments to the Directive on Ship-Source Pollution and on the Introduction of Penalties for Infringements. The aim of the amendments is to improve the protection of the marine environment.
