  5. 2.4.2024 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications requests comments on the national adoption of convention amendments adopted by the Maritime Safety Committee of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).   6. 2.7.2024 | The European Commission has published its annual State of the Digital Decade report, in which it assesses the progress of Member States in applying digitalisation and issues recommendations for further action. The particular strengths of Finland specified in the report are comprehensive basic digital skills and digitalisation in small and medium-sized businesses.

  7. 28.4.2026 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications has set up a project to prepare an assessment memorandum on national extensions to the Directive on Privacy and Electronic Communications. The review will focus especially on national data protection regulation concerning corporate subscribers.

  8. 29.11.2023 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications has amended the Decree on Penalty Fares in Public Transport. The amendment to increase the penalty fare from EUR 80 to EUR 100 in public transport provided by Helsinki Region Transport will enter into force on 1 January 2024.

  9. 18.9.2023 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications requests comments on the national adoption of convention amendments adopted by the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).   14. 22.4.2026 | The Legal Committee of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) met in London on 13–17 April 2026. The meeting discussed the prevention of increased fraudulent registrations and measures to combat unlawful operations of ships.

  15. 23.4.2026 | On 23 April 2026, the Government submitted amendments to the Act on Electronic Communication Services for approval. The amendments apply to equipment that interfere with radio communications, so-called jammers. The act is scheduled to enter into force on 1 July 2026.

  18. 24.4.2026 | The Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) will meet in London from 27 April to 1 May 2026. IMO Member States are expected to decide the next steps in negotiations on reducing greenhouse gas emissions from shipping. Other topics to be discussed include specifications to the rules on the carbon intensity and energy efficiency of vessels, the regulation of ballast water and guidance on reducing underwater noise.

  19. 7.6.2022 | The national public transport campaign, carried out through inter-authority collaboration, will continue on 7 June 2022. The purpose of the campaign is to encourage passengers to return to public transport. In late 2021, it was put on hold due to the deteriorated COVID-19 situation.

  20. 4.11.2022 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications published a report on 4 November 2022 on the findings of a study that looked into the accessibility of public transport travel chains. The findings indicate that the physical accessibility of travel chains and the availability of accessibility information on journeys should be improved.
