The application period for investment aid to improve the level of environmental protection of sea-going vessels began on 2 April 2013. Investment aid is to be granted for the purpose of retrofitting vessels with exhaust gas cleaning systems, such as sulphur scrubbers.
Aid may be targeted at technical solutions which enable the introduction of alternative fuels or the reduction of fuel emissions.
In the 2013 Budget, a total of EUR 30 million has been reserved for environmental aid to be granted for vessel investments. This budget authority is targeted at costs which arise from retrofitting existing ships with systems improving the level of environmental protection. The aid is granted by the Ministry of Transport and Communications.
