1.6.2026 | The 2026 National Cyber Security Exercise for state administration organizations was held from 25 to 29 May. In the exercise, the aim was to influence citizen services through cyber-attacks using real-world threat actor tactics and techniques.

25.6.2026 | A total of approximately EUR 17.6 million in funding from the European Commission’s Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) is being sought for Finnish-led projects. In addition, approximately EUR 8.6 million in funding is being sought for Swedish-led projects that involve Finnish operators. The Ministerial Finance Committee decided in favour of the applications on 25 June 2026.

6.3.2025 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications has launched the TUUTTI project for security and growth through communications networks. This project will formulate national policies for developing a secure communications network infrastructure fostering sustainable growth and competitiveness through digitalisation until 2037.

20.8.2025 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications proposes a permanent increase of EUR 4.7 million from 2026 onwards for measures set out in the Cyber Security Strategy. 28.5.2025 | The European Commission is expected to submit a proposal on the revision of the Cybersecurity Regulation at the end of 2025. The Finnish Ministry of Transport and Communications submitted a report on this matter to Parliament on 26 May 2025.

4.6.2025 | The EU Transport and Telecommunications Council will convene in Luxembourg from 5 to 6 June 2025. Minister of Transport and Communications Lulu Ranne will represent Finland at the meeting.

20.5.2025 | Minister of Transport and Communications Lulu Ranne will attend the Summit of the International Transport Forum (ITF) in Leipzig, Germany, on 21 and 22 May 2025. The theme of this year’s summit is transport resilience in times of crises.

19.5.2025 | A national cyber exercise (“KYHA”) brought together more than 120 central government employees to improve their technical skills and mutual cooperation against cyber attacks. Held at the IT Institute of the JAMK University of Applied Sciences in Jyväskylä on 12–16 May 2025, this cyber exercise, the second one this year, turned out to be a great success.

10.4.2025 | On 10 April 2025, the Government appointed Janne Allonen, Master of Science, to serve as Deputy Cyber Security Director for a fixed term from 1 May 2025 to 30 April 2028.

20.12.2024 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications requests comments on the updates to the national 12-year transport system plan Transport 12 and on the environmental report. The deadline for submitting comments is 5 March 2025.

28.8.2023 | A COVID-19 legislation ex post evaluation, prepared jointly by the Ministry of Transport and Communications and the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom, has been released. The report examines the temporary legislation put in place in 2020–2021 in the administrative branch of the Ministry of Transport and Communications in consequence of COVID 19. It also looks at the drafting of this legislation.

22.5.2024 | Permanent Secretary Minna Kivimäki will attend the Summit of the International Transport Forum (ITF) in Leipzig, Germany, on 22 and 23 May 2024. The main theme of the summit is keeping the focus on the environment in times of crisis.  

2.9.2025 | The Government of Prime Minister Petteri Orpo has reached a decision on its budget proposal for 2026. The Government’s decisions aim to support economic growth, which is picking up. Supporting economic growth and continuing responsible fiscal management is necessary to ensure the security of people in Finland and safeguard their access to important services going forward.

23.5.2024 | On 23 May 2024, the Government submitted to Parliament a proposal concerning the national implementation of the EU Directive on measures for a high common level of cybersecurity across the Union (NIS 2). The aim of the Directive is to strengthen cybersecurity in critical sectors at the EU and national level.

25.10.2021 | On 25 October 2021, the Ministry of Transport and Communications organised a Forum for the passenger transport sector for the fourth time. The aim of the Forum is to share information from the authorities and discuss the best practices among both large and small transport service providers.

24.8.2023 | The Government submitted a Union communication to Parliament on the European Commission’s Proposal for a Regulation on the use of railway infrastructure capacity in the single European railway area. The Government supports the objectives of the Commission proposal.

5.5.2020 | The topics on the agenda of EU telecommunications ministers' video conference on Tuesday, 5 May 2020, included mobile tracing applications in tackling the COVID-19 pandemic. In the meeting, Finland was represented by Minister of Transport and Communications Timo Harakka.
