  4. 30.11.2023 | On 30 November 2023, the Finnish Government submitted a proposal to Parliament for the amendment of the Rail Transport Act and the Act on Transport Services. The proposed amendment to the Rail Transport Act is the third round of revisions since its entry into force on 1 January 2019. The proposed amendments to the Act on Transport Services concern the regulation of licensing.

  5. The European Commission presented proposals on 20 and 21 January 2026 for new cybersecurity regulation and the Digital Networks Act (DNA). The cybersecurity package includes a proposal to revise the Cybersecurity Act and to amend the cybersecurity regulation known as the Network and Information Systems Directive (NIS2 Directive).

  6. The revised Road Traffic Act will enter into force next Monday, 1 June 2020. The new Act includes all the provisions concerning guidance of people's behaviour in transport. The purpose of the new act is to improve the flow and safety of traffic and create a favourable environment for digitalisation and safe automation of transport.

  10. Finnish operators apply for a total of EUR 13.76 million in funding from the European Commission’s Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) for seven communications projects. In addition, four Swedish projects are partly placed in Finland. The Ministerial Finance Committee decided in favour of the applications on 30 January 2025.

  19. The Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) met in London on 7–11 April 2025. After challenging negotiations, the Committee’s 83rd session reached a provisional agreement on measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from ships.
