In line with the Programme of Prime Minister Petteri Orpo's Government, Finland's Cyber Security Strategy has been revised to respond to the changed security environment. The strategy will make cyber security a more integral part of Finland's concept of comprehensive security.

In line with the Programme of Prime Minister Orpo's Government, Finland's Cyber Security Strategy has been revised to respond to the changed security environment. The objectives of the revised strategy extend to 2035. A strategy implementation plan has been drawn to describe the development measures to achieve the objectives. The plan was approved on 3 December 2024 by the steering group of the project developing an operating model for government security management.

Young people’s traffic safety has recently gained widespread attention following the tragic traffic accidents in Nurmijärvi.

28.5.2025 | The European Commission is expected to submit a proposal on the revision of the Cybersecurity Regulation at the end of 2025. The Finnish Ministry of Transport and Communications submitted a report on this matter to Parliament on 26 May 2025.

23.1.2026 | The European Commission presented proposals on 20 and 21 January 2026 for new cybersecurity regulation and the Digital Networks Act (DNA). The cybersecurity package includes a proposal to revise the Cybersecurity Act and to amend the cybersecurity regulation known as the Network and Information Systems Directive (NIS2 Directive).

8.3.2024 | On 8 March 2024, the Prime Minister’s Office set up a project to develop an operating model for government security management. As part of the project, a sub-group was established for preparing a revision of the Cyber Security Strategy.

28.9.2022 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications has published a report it commissioned on the cost impacts of the proposals in the EU's Fit for 55 Package on road transport. The report assessed how the legislative proposals included in the package would affect the fuel costs of road transport in Finland by 2030. The report is part of the preparations for the national processing of the Fit for 55 package.

The National Cyber Security Office, based at the Ministry of Transport and Communications, and the Finnish Terminology Centre are requesting comments on a draft of an updated Cybersecurity Glossary. The deadline for submitting comments is 20 March 2026. The glossary project is part of an implementation plan of Finland’s Cyber Security Strategy 2024–2035.

31.8.2023 | The Government submitted a Union communication to Parliament on the European Commission's proposal for amending the Weights and Dimensions Directive.  The proposal is in line with the main objectives of Finland’s proactive efforts to exert influence on the matter.

Supporting economic growth and continuing responsible fiscal management is necessary to ensure the security of people in Finland and safeguard their access to important services going forward.

On 11 May 2026, the National Cyber Security Office, based at the Ministry of Transport and Communications, and the Finnish Terminology Centre published an updated version of the Cybersecurity Glossary. The glossary project is part of the implementation plan of Finland’s Cyber Security Strategy 2024–2035.

The Maritime Safety Committee of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) convenes in London from 18 to 27 June 2025. Permanent Secretary Minna Kivimäki will participate in the meeting in London on 23–25 June to promote Finland’s new term as a member of IMO’s Council.

24.8.2023 | On 24 August 2023, the Government submitted Union communications to Parliament on the European Commission's proposals for amendments to the so-called maritime transport package.

Finland has been awarded EUR 462,000 in EU funding to advance road safety under a European Commission call launched in late 2025. It will support a network-wide road safety assessment, the collection of road safety performance indicators, and the national implementation of the EU Road Safety Package.

14.1.2021 | The Government is proposing an urgent revision of legislation on car scrapping bonuses to ensure that a subsidy granted for scrapping one old car is used in purchasing one new low-emission passenger motor vehicle, electric bicycle or right to use public transport. This is a technical revision ensuring that provisions correspond more closely to the original purpose of the legislation.
