The Ministry of Transport and Communications and the Ministry of Finance have completed a joint outlook review of the current state of transport taxation and financing, and options for reform. The review report is the first part of the Government’s comprehensive reform of transport taxation and financing set out in the Programme of Prime Minister Petteri Orpo’s Government.

In the future, the Vehicles Act would only lay down provisions on the approval of equipment and new vehicles belonging to national vehicle categories and on their market surveillance. These categories and equipment include motorised work machinery, off-road vehicles, studs and studded tyres.

The emissions standards apply to vehicle emissions such as carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, particles and nitrogen oxides, which are detrimental to health. The proposal is aimed at reducing the air pollution caused by new motor vehicles sold in the EU. The Government is mainly in favour of the proposal.

3.9.2024 | The 2025 budget proposal of Prime Minister Orpo's Government bolsters conditions for economic growth. Economic growth driven by the private sector will also serve to secure the financing base for central government finances. The fast-acting measures to curb indebtedness that were decided on due to the difficult situation in central government finances will move forward.
