The revised Road Traffic Act will enter into force next Monday, 1 June 2020. The new Act includes all the provisions concerning guidance of people's behaviour in transport. The purpose of the new act is to improve the flow and safety of traffic and create a favourable environment for digitalisation and safe automation of transport.

4.5.2018 | Instead of driving, walk or ride a bicycle for short trips. This is the message of the "I move, therefore I am" campaign. Nearly a quarter of all trips shorter than a kilometre are made by car, and the figure is 60 per cent for trips two to three kilometres long. The Ministry of Transport and Communications supports the promotion of walking and cycling also through the Society's Commitment to Sustainable Development. 

21.10.2024 | Finland is a Member of the Council of the International Maritime Organization IMO in 2024–2025. IMO makes decisions on key issues concerning the safety, sustainability and technologies of maritime transport, which is why Finland is seeking to be re-elected to the Council for the term 2026–2027.

24.11.2023 | The Assembly of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) will meet in London from 27 November to 6 December 2022. Finland is a candidate for membership in the IMO Council. The configuration of the incoming Council will be subject to a vote by the Assembly on 1 December. 

18.7.2023 | Arsenio Antonio Dominguez Velasco from Panama was appointed as the new Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). Finland's candidate, Minna Kivimäki, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, was among those not chosen for the post.

23.5.2023 | Permanent Secretary Minna Kivimäki will visit London to promote campaigns which seek a place for Finland at the heart of the International Maritime Organization, IMO. 

1.12.2023 | On 1 December 2023, the Assembly of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) voted on the Members of the Council for 2024-2025. Finland was elected as one of the 40 Council Member States.

19.4.2023 | Permanent Secretary Minna Kivimäki will visit London on 19–21 April 2023 to promote campaigns which seek a place for Finland at the heart of the International Maritime Organization, IMO. Ki-vimäki will meet key representatives of IMO Member States and maritime operators.

5.10.2022 | The central government will implement an extensive energy saving programme in its premises with the aim to help Finland overcome the current challenging energy situation. The Ministerial working group on developing the digital transformation, the data economy and public administration discussed the matter on 5 October. Minister of Local Government Sirpa Paatero fully took over as chair of the ministerial working group for the remainder of the government term.

3.7.2023 | The Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) is meeting in London from 3–7 July 2023. The 80th session of the MEPC is expected to adopt a revised IMO greenhouse gas strategy. The meeting will also discuss global solutions for reducing greenhouse gas emissions from ships and the regulation of ships’ energy efficiency and ballast water management.

25.10.2021 | On 25 October 2021, the Ministry of Transport and Communications organised a Forum for the passenger transport sector for the fourth time. The aim of the Forum is to share information from the authorities and discuss the best practices among both large and small transport service providers.

7.12.2022 | On Wednesday 7 December, Finland sent buses to Ukraine to be used to transport children and young people to school. This donation is part of the European Commission’s solidarity campaign. Russia’s war of aggression has affected an estimated 5.7 million schoolchildren in Ukraine with many schools having been destroyed in bombing.
