The aim of the Gigabit Infrastructure Act is to speed up the construction of very high capacity networks.   15. 16.6.2025 | On 16 June 2025, the Ministerial Committee on Economic Policy decided that the central government would continue its preparations for the competitive tendering of publicly funded passenger rail services. The current contract with VR Group is due to expire at the end of 2030, with a new contract period of about ten years scheduled to start on 1 January 2031.

  16. 27.6.2025 | On 27 June 2025, the President of the Republic approved temporary amendments to the Act on Transport Services, which will enter into force on 1 July 2025. The purpose is to bring data on publicly supported passenger transport services in Northern Finland into one place.

  18. 11.6.2025 | At the seminar held on 11 June 2025, the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency presented the main results of a study on extending the standard track gauge commonly used in Europe to northern Finland. According to the study, extending the narrower track gauge to Finland will primarily benefit military mobility.

  19. 12.6.2025 | The Government proposed stricter legislation concerning micromobility on 12 June 2025. The amendments to the Road Traffic Act and the Vehicles Act would enter into force on 17 June 2025 and the amendments to the Act on Transport Services and the Act on the Transfer of Vehicles on 1 August 2025. The aim of the proposal is to improve the safety of electric scooters and other micromobility vehicles.

  20. 27.6.2025 | On 27 June 2025, the President of the Republic approved amendments to the Act on the Finnish Broadcasting Company Yle. The amendments will implement the legislative changes outlined by the parliamentary working group on Yle. They also incorporate the criteria and procedures for the appointment and dismissal of the management of public service media providers required by the European Media Freedom Act (EMFA). The legislative amendments will enter into force on 8 August 2025.
