Minister Ranne to visit Nordic Response 24 exercise in Lapland
Minister of Transport and Communications Lulu Ranne will visit the Nordic Response 24 defence exercise in Lapland on 10–11 March 2024. This is the first time that Finland’s Minister of Transport and Communications will be present in an international military exercise. During her visit, Minister Ranne will learn about the activities of the Defence Forces and the Air Force, Nordic cooperation between the authorities and NATO-Nordic defence cooperation from the infrastructure perspective.
“It is important to see how the infrastructure works and how it withstands in the Nordic Response 24 exercise. A well-functioning infrastructure is a vital part of Finland’s security of supply and military defence capability. The infrastructure must function and withstand even in emergency conditions,” says Minister Ranne.
The Ministry of Transport and Communications cooperates closely with the Ministry of Defence and the Defence Forces.
“The need for infrastructure investments and their prioritisation will be examined after the exercise, especially from the perspective of military mobility and security of supply,” Minister Ranne says.
The Finnish Defence Forces participate in the Norwegian-led Nordic Response 24 exercise in the northern parts of Finland, Norway and Sweden on 4–15 March 2024. It is a large combat exercise on land, sea and in the air.
Nordic Response 24 is part of the Steadfast Defender 24 drills, in which NATO countries and partners train the Alliance’s ability to reinforce troops up north for the purpose of training a defensive joint operation in arctic conditions in the areas of Finland, Norway, and Sweden.
