In line with the Programme of Prime Minister Orpo's Government, Finland's Cyber Security Strategy has been revised to respond to the changed security environment. The objectives of the revised strategy extend to 2035. A strategy implementation plan has been drawn to describe the development measures to achieve the objectives. The plan was approved on 3 December 2024 by the steering group of the project developing an operating model for government security management.

In line with the Programme of Prime Minister Petteri Orpo's Government, Finland's Cyber Security Strategy has been revised to respond to the changed security environment. The strategy will make cyber security a more integral part of Finland's concept of comprehensive security.

16.12.2025 | At the Energy Council meeting on 15 December 2025, Member States of the European Union adopted a partial general approach on the proposed regulation establishing Connecting Europe Facility for 2028–2034. Finland is in favour of the regulation’s emphasis on military mobility.

13.11.2025 | The Finnish Government submitted a communication to Parliament on 13 November 2025 regarding the European Commission’s proposal for a Regulation on the Connecting Europe Facility for the period 2028–2034. The Government welcomes the proposal and emphasises that funding should be more strongly directed towards strengthening defence and security, among other sectors. 

2.9.2025 | The Government of Prime Minister Petteri Orpo has reached a decision on its budget proposal for 2026. The Government’s decisions aim to support economic growth, which is picking up. Supporting economic growth and continuing responsible fiscal management is necessary to ensure the security of people in Finland and safeguard their access to important services going forward.

13.10.2025 | To support the preparation of the project "Security and new economic growth from information networks" (TUUTTI), the Ministry of Transport and Communications invited comments on the project's key needs and themes. The consultation was open from 19 June to 31 August 2025.  On 13 October 2025, the Ministry published a summary of the 33 comments received.

30.1.2025 | Communications networks are part of the infrastructure that is essential for the functioning of society. The security of communications networks is extensively regulated in the Act on Electronic Communications Services. Its provisions contain obligations to ensure that the security of communications networks is, above all, proactively safeguarded though retroactive measures may be used where necessary.

20.8.2025 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications proposes a permanent increase of EUR 4.7 million from 2026 onwards for measures set out in the Cyber Security Strategy. 13.5.2025 | Transport ministers of Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden and Denmark will meet on 13–14 May 2025 in Helsinki. They will issue a joint statement on military mobility and security of supply.

11.6.2025 | At the seminar held on 11 June 2025, the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency presented the main results of a study on extending the standard track gauge commonly used in Europe to northern Finland. According to the study, extending the narrower track gauge to Finland will primarily benefit military mobility.

21.11.2024 | The Government proposes that on 22 November 2024 the President of the Republic approve the acts for establishing the Finnish Space Situational Awareness Centre.

24.4.2025 | The Government has proposed that EUR 20 million be allocated in the General Govern-ment Fiscal Plan for 2026–2029 for a planning project to extend the European track gauge from Sweden to Finland.

12.2.2025 | Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communications Minna Kivimäki, together with the Ministry’s senior public officials, is visiting Brussels on 11–13 February 2025 to influence various EU processes.

10.10.2024 | The Government proposes funding for the establishment of the Finnish Space Situational Awareness Centre. Funding is proposed for the administrative branches of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. The Ministry of Transport and Communications share of the funding amounts to EUR 411 000.  

27.5.2024 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications requests comments on the draft government proposal for an act amending the Act on the Finnish Meteorological Institute and for an Act amending the Act on the Defence Forces. The amendments would enable the establishment of a space situational awareness centre in Finland. The deadline for submitting comments is 30 June 2024.

13.3.2024 | Minister of Transport and Communications Lulu Ranne visited the Nordic Response 24 defence exercise in Lapland on 10–11 March 2024. Minister Ranne learnt about the activities of the Defence Forces, Nordic cooperation between the authorities and NATO-Nordic defence cooperation from the infrastructure perspective.

8.3.2024 | Minister of Transport and Communications Lulu Ranne will visit the Nordic Response 24 defence exercise in Lapland on 10–11 March 2024. This is the first time that Finland’s Minister of Transport and Communications will be present in an international military exercise. During her visit, Minister Ranne will learn about the activities of the Defence Forces and the Air Force, Nordic cooperation between the authorities and NATO-Nordic defence cooperation from the infrastructure perspective.

29.4.2024 | Minister of Transport and Communications Lulu Ranne will visit Narvik, Norway, from 29 to 30 April 2024. Together with the Norwegian and Swedish transport ministers, she will observe NATO’s Immediate Response 2024 defence exercise, which will practise military mobility and reception of military support.
