  2. Finland’s Ministry of Transport and Communications published a Joint Nordic Strategy for Transport System Preparedness on 11 March 2026. The strategy was handed over to the Nordic transport ministers in Rovaniemi where the ministers also issued a joint statement. As part of their meeting, the ministers will also visit the multinational Cold Response 26 military exercise in Lapland on 12 March 2026.

  3. 13.11.2025 | The Government proposes that the President of the Republic approve amendments to the Rail Transport Act and the Act on Transport Services on 14 November 2025. The amendments will enhance the safety and security of urban rail transport and allow more time to procure rolling stock that meets EU requirements for use in the forest and chemicals industries.

  5. 13.11.2025 | The Government proposes that the President of the Republic approve on 14 November 2025 the act on digital information services for the transport system and amendments to the related acts. The acts will enter into force on 1 January 2026.

  7. 29.4.2026 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications invites comments on a draft government proposal concerning the implementation of the Non-Road Mobile Machinery and Euro 7 Regulations.   12. The Ministry of Transport and Communications has launched a legislative project to improve the operating conditions for the transport sector. The aim of the project is to further specify the EU regulation concerning road cabotage and make the regulations easier to comply with and supervise. In addition, the project promotes the use of vehicles powered by alternative fuels with a total mass not exceeding 4,250 kg in goods transport.

  14. 15.7.2024 | On 15 July 2024, the Ministry of Transport and Communications published an assessment report on how the electrification of transport could contribute to the flexibility of the Finnish energy system.   15. The Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) met in London on 7–11 April 2025. After challenging negotiations, the Committee’s 83rd session reached a provisional agreement on measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from ships. The final decisions are to be made in October 2025.
