13.5.2026 | The Government proposed on 13 May 2026 that the amendments to the Driving Licence Act be adopted. For the most part, the Act will enter into force on 29 May 2026. On 12 June 2025, the Ministry of Transport and Communications initiated a regulation project to amend the Driving Licence Act. The project’s goals are to promote road safety by improving the capability of young drivers to identify and avoid risks and by restricting the times of day young people can drive. 22.1.2024 | The European Member States, Parliament and the Commission have reached a provisional agreement on a regulation on CO2 emission standards for heavy-duty vehicles (HDVs). The emissions reduction targets for new heavy-duty vehicles will gradually tighten and the scope of application of the regulation will widen. 20.12.2022 | On 20 December 2022, the Government submitted to Parliament a Union communication regarding the Commission's proposal on the so-called Euro 7 emission standards. The emissions standards apply to vehicle emissions such as carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, particles and nitrogen oxides, which are detrimental to health. The proposal is aimed at reducing the air pollution caused by new motor vehicles sold in the EU.
