23.4.2026 | Prime Minister Petteri Orpo’s Government has agreed on the General Government Fiscal Plan for 2027–2030. The Government has agreed on significant transport investments across Finland. 

27.6.2025 | The President of the Republic approved the legislative amendments on aviation on 27 June 2025. The amendments aim to improve aviation safety and security. The Acts will enter into force on 1 September 2025.

3.5.2024 | GPS interference in aviation has been debated in public. The Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom published a press release saying that it is safe to fly to and in Finland. Traficom is responsible for flight and aviation safety as well as for monitoring GPS interference.

The National Cyber Security Office, based at the Ministry of Transport and Communications, and the Finnish Terminology Centre are requesting comments on a draft of an updated Cybersecurity Glossary. The deadline for submitting comments is 20 March 2026. The glossary project is part of an implementation plan of Finland’s Cyber Security Strategy 2024–2035.

Finnish operators apply for a total of EUR 13.76 million in funding from the European Commission’s Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) for seven communications projects. In addition, four Swedish projects are partly placed in Finland. The Ministerial Finance Committee decided in favour of the applications on 30 January 2025.

The Facilitation Committee of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) met in London from 23 to 27 March 2026. The Facilitation Committee (FAL) deals with facilitation, digitalisation and procedures by the authorities related to international maritime traffic.

27.8.2020 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications is preparing a legislative package to ensure health security in maritime transport, aviation and passenger transport, including terminals and stations. A proposal is also under preparation to amend the Act on Communicable Diseases in terms of the provisions concerning the transport sector.

15.7.2021 | The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has submitted a proposal for the new aviation information security regulations of the European Commission. It aims to improve the aviation sector's capabilities to protect themselves against information security risks and thus improve aviation safety. In support of the EASA's proposal and its goals, the Government submitted a communication on the matter to Parliament on 15 July 2021.

11.8.2025 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications proposes that EUR 3.78 billion be allocated to its administrative branch for 2026. This is about EUR 60 million less than in the 2025 Budget.

20.5.2025 | The Ministerial Committee on Economic Policy decided on 20 May 2025 to fully finance flight connections between six regional airports and Helsinki up to 27 February 2028. Air connections to the city of Savonlinna, however, will be funded out of government funds up to 50 per cent only. The decision is based on the spring 2026 government discussion on spending limits.

4.6.2025 | The EU Transport and Telecommunications Council will convene in Luxembourg from 5 to 6 June 2025. Minister of Transport and Communications Lulu Ranne will represent Finland at the meeting.

13.9.2012 | The Government has proposed ratification of the aviation agreement concerning establishment of the Northern European Functional Airspace Block (NEFAB). Finland, Latvia, Norway and Estonia signed the agreement in June 2012 in Tallinn.

3.11.2011 | The Ministry for Foreign Affairs has received the statement it requested from the Ministry of Transport and Communications enabling the release of information in response to the Amnesty International query about specific flights in 2001–2006.

12.11.2024 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications requests comments on a draft government proposal for amending legislative amendments to improve aviation safety. Provisions on the permission to set up obstacles to air navigation under the Aviation Act would also be amended at the same time. The deadline for submitting comments is 31 December 2024.

5.9.2023 | On 5 September 2023, the Government published a report on public transport procurements and public service obligations. It provides information on purchase of air transport services and on the impacts and future prospects of flight connections to support decision-making in the government budget session. 

3.7.2025 | The European Commission has awarded EUR 91.01 million under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) to nine projects in Finland. Of this, around EUR 59.60 million will go to government initiatives.

9.10.2023 | The Government proposes that nearly EUR 3.6 billion be allocated to the administrative branch of the Ministry of Transport and Communications for 2024.

21.12.2022 | Negotiations between the Council of the EU, the European Parliament and the Commission reached an accord 18 December 2022 concerning the Emissions Trading Directive, an MRV Regulation on reporting of maritime transport emissions, and the Social Climate Fund.
