5.10.2022 | The central government will implement an extensive energy saving programme in its premises with the aim to help Finland overcome the current challenging energy situation. The Ministerial working group on developing the digital transformation, the data economy and public administration discussed the matter on 5 October. Minister of Local Government Sirpa Paatero fully took over as chair of the ministerial working group for the remainder of the government term.

2.9.2025 | The Government of Prime Minister Petteri Orpo has reached a decision on its budget proposal for 2026. The Government’s decisions aim to support economic growth, which is picking up. Supporting economic growth and continuing responsible fiscal management is necessary to ensure the security of people in Finland and safeguard their access to important services going forward.

3.9.2024 | The 2025 budget proposal of Prime Minister Orpo's Government bolsters conditions for economic growth. Economic growth driven by the private sector will also serve to secure the financing base for central government finances. The fast-acting measures to curb indebtedness that were decided on due to the difficult situation in central government finances will move forward.

Besides climate change, biodiversity loss has emerged as a serious environmental crisis, and the majority of the people are of the opinion that solutions to climate change and biodiversity loss should be sought as a whole.

Agreement on the so-called FuelEU Maritime Regulation was reached in trilogue negotiations on 22 March 2023. In the agreement reached, Finland’s particular characteristics in winter navigation are well taken into account. The agreement will be confirmed at the meeting of the Council of Ministers.

8.7.2021 | Minister of Transport and Communications Timo Harakka has sent a letter to European Commission Executive Vice-President Frans Timmermans concerning emissions trading in maritime transport. Minister Harakka stresses that the special circumstances related to winter navigation should be taken into account in the Commission's proposal for emissions trading, and the proposal should also include an assessment of its impacts on the relative competitiveness of Member States.

16.9.2021 | The introduction of the Public Regulated Service (PRS) of the European Galileo satellite navigation system is progressing. The Ministry of Transport and Communications will start preparing legislative amendments so that Finland could introduce the service in 2024.

17.9.2019 | Regeringen har enats om budgetpropositionen för 2020. I avsikt att bekämpa klimatförändringen satsar man bland annat på utsläppssnåla transporter samt gång och cykling. Under budgetförhandlingarna kom regeringen också överens om ett tillägg för finansieringen av basunderhållet av transportinfrastrukturen.
