The Facilitation Committee of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) met in London from 23 to 27 March 2026. The Facilitation Committee (FAL) deals with facilitation, digitalisation and procedures by the authorities related to international maritime traffic.

The Government submitted its communication to Parliament on 1 April 2026 regarding the European Commission’s proposal for a Digital Networks Act (DNA). The Government supports the proposal’s aims to modernise and simplify regulation.

The European Commission presented proposals on 20 and 21 January 2026 for new cybersecurity regulation and the Digital Networks Act (DNA). The cybersecurity package includes a proposal to revise the Cybersecurity Act and to amend the cybersecurity regulation known as the Network and Information Systems Directive (NIS2 Directive).

11.6.2020 | The Government is proposing a reform to the Act on Electronic Communications Services. The objectives of the change include the improvement of the consumers' position, the promotion of both investments into communications networks and the availability of communications services as well as ensuring the security of communication networks better. The Government gave the proposal to the Parliament on Thursday, 11 June 2020.

7.3.2018 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications has ordered a report that discusses the protection and encryption methods of electronic communications. The report was completed as a part of the implementation of the Data Security Strategy.

16.2.2017 | The Finnish Government welcomes the proposal by the European Union Commission to review the regulatory framework for privacy and electronic communications as it would promote confidentiality and protection of privacy in electronic communications. The proposal would also promote responsible digital business activities and services. The Government submitted a communication on the matter to Parliament on 16 February 2017.
