The European Commission’s annual Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI) monitors the digital performance of EU Member States and tracks their progress in digitalisation. Finland has been at the top of the list for several years, ranking number two in 2021 and number one in 2019 and 2020.

The European Commission’s annual Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI) monitors the digital performance of EU Member States and tracks their progress in digitalisation. Finland ranked number one in the previous two years, and has been one of the leading countries for several years.

19.12.2024 | The President of the Republic approved the amendment to the Act on the State Television and Radio Fund on 29 December 2024. It is to enter into force on 1 January 2025. The amendment will freeze the annual index increases to funding of the Finnish Broadcasting Company, YLE. The amendment implements the policies of the parliamentary YLE working group.

13.3.2024 | On 13 March 2024, the Ministry of Transport and Communications published the results of a survey on the future need for broadband aid. The survey assesses previous broadband aid schemes, the current state of the markets and any need for a new aid scheme.

7.9.2023 | On 7 September 2023, the Government submitted to Parliament a Union communication concerning the European Commission's proposal for a regulation on harmonising the accounting of green-house gas emissions of transport services. 

20.12.2022 | On 20 December 2022, the Government submitted to Parliament a Union communication regarding the Commission's proposal on the so-called Euro 7 emission standards. The emissions standards apply to vehicle emissions such as carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, particles and nitrogen oxides, which are detrimental to health. The proposal is aimed at reducing the air pollution caused by new motor vehicles sold in the EU. The Government is mainly in favour of the proposal.

A legislative project decision was also issued with a view to amending the provisions of the Information Society Code (917/2014) governing the must carry obligation for radio programming.

Aalto University, for its part, will present the results of a study dealing with the impacts of the emissions trading system on income distribution.

The impact assessments are used in the preparation of a roadmap for fossil-free transport and in the related knowledge-based decision-making.
