The impacts on the national economy are negative, but the scale of those impacts is modest.

According to the new forecast prepared by VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, current measures will see greenhouse gas emissions from transport decrease by about 40% between 2005 and 2030. The East Railway would be a significant new connection from Eastern Finland via Kouvola and Porvoo to Helsinki Airport. However, reductions in travel times would be moderate in relation to investment costs.

The solution for carbon-free transport lies in zero- and low-emission cars as well as in renewable fuels, mileage reduction of passenger cars and sustainable forms of transportation.
