On 7 September 2017, the Government appointed Susanna Niinivaara, M.Soc.Sc., as Communications Director at the Ministry of Transport and Communications. Her five-year term of office will begin on 9 October 2017.
She has worked as press officer for the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, at Finland's Consulate General in St. Petersburg since 2013. Previously she has worked as journalist and consultant in the media agency Panther Media Limited (Pantterimedia Ky) and as journalist and correspondent with the newspaper Helsingin Sanomat.
The Communications Director is a member of the Ministry's management groups. She directs the Ministry's Communications Unit that is responsible for external and internal communications, stakeholder groups and web communications. She is also responsible for cooperation in communications issues with other ministries and the administrative branch.
