Press release

On 17 December 2015 the Finnish Government issued programme licences for radio broadcasting to 14 applicants. The licences are valid until 31 December 2019.

Licences for which there was no scarcity in the frequencies were issued by the Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority on 5 November 2015. Regarding the cities of Joensuu, Kokkola, Lappeenranta, Loviisa, Mikkeli, Pietarsaari, Raasepori, Rauma and Seinäjoki the number of applications exceeded the number of frequencies available and thus the decision-making power over those licences was transferred to the Government.

A programme licence for radio broadcasting was issued to:

Laestadiernas Fridsföreningars Förbund rf:

Pietarsaari 98.0 MHz;

Radio Foni Oy:

Loviisa 106.7 MHz (part of the frequency block Porvoo);

Kaimax Media Oy:

Frequency block 18 (Mikkeli 94.0 MHz, Raasepori 92.3 MHz, Rauma 98.4 MHz, Seinäjoki 104.5 MHz);

Kristillinen Media Oy:

Kokkola 100.7 MHz (part of the frequency block 9);

Mediatakojat Oy:

Frequency block 19 (Joensuu 99.9 MHz, Lappeenranta 97.4 MHz, Seinäjoki 101.8 MHz);

Mediatakojat Oy:

Frequency block Rauma 2 (Rauma 92.9 MHz);

Kevyt Kanava Oy:

Frequency block 20 (Joensuu 104.7 MHz, Lappeenranta 97.7 MHz, Mikkeli 100.0 MHz);

NRJ Finland Oy:

Joensuu 101.2 MHz, Kokkola 101.3 MHz, Mikkeli 98.9 MHz and Seinäjoki 107.4 MHz (part of the frequency block 12);

Järviradio Oy:

Rauma 107.7 MHz (part of the frequency block 14).

The licence issued to Laestadiernas Fridföreningars Förbund is a completely new one, while the others extend the coverage area of previously issued licences.

The licensing process is used to promote freedom of expression and to ensure a versatile line of radio programmes, considering the needs of special groups. It also aims at ensuring efficient use of spectrum.
