Mari Herranen appointed Chair of ENISA

Ministerial Adviser Mari Herranen, 41, of the Finnish Ministry of Transport and Communications has been appointed Chair of ENISA, the European Network and Information Security Agency.

ENISA's Management Board announced the appointment on 22 March 2011. Ms Herranen, who has been Finland's representative in the Agency's Management Board since 2007, takes up her position as Chair immediately. The term lasts two and a half years.

Ms Herranen serves as Director of the Secretariat for International Affairs at the Ministry of Transport and Communications. Her earlier responsibilities have included information security cooperation at the national and international level and preparation of the National Information Security Strategy, along with coordination of its implementation. She has also been employed at the Finnish Ministry of Trade and Industry, the Permanent Representation of the Finnish Parliament in Brussels, and the European Commission.

ENISA, the European Network and Information Security Agency, seeks to ensure a culture of high-level, effective network and information security in the EU area. It also strives to improve the capabilities of the Community, its Member States and businesses to prevent, address and solve problems relating to network and information security.

The Agency operates in Heraklion, Greece, and employs some 50 people.
