The revised Road Traffic Act will enter into force next Monday, 1 June 2020. The new Act includes all the provisions concerning guidance of people's behaviour in transport. The purpose of the new act is to improve the flow and safety of traffic and create a favourable environment for digitalisation and safe automation of transport.

The Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom allocated 3.5 million euros in grants to a total of 12 projects. The selected projects aim to make walking and cycling a more convenient and attractive option as well as improve safety.

This requires that the subsidies and incentives outlined in the roadmap for fossil-free transport are implemented in full and that every aspect of the emissions reduction potential is realised as expected. Measures at the EU level are also required, as is a greater obligation to distribute renewable fuels.

28.11.2019 | The strategy will be prepared by the Ministry of Transport and Communications. In the work, safety will be approached and examined in terms of all transport modes.  

28.8.2019 | On 1 August 2019, the Commission of the European Union notified Finland of the Finnish legal provisions on lightweight vehicles. The Finnish provisions are meant to enter into force in the beginning of November.

One fifth of Finland's greenhouse gases come from transport and the majority of these from road traffic.
