The Ministry of Transport and Communications is finalising the government proposal to amend taxi regulation. Next, the proposal will be reviewed by the Finnish Council of Regulatory Impact Analysis, translated and submitted to legislative editing. The aim is to submit the government proposal to Parliament in spring 2026.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications requested comments on a draft government proposal to amend the taxi regulation. Over 150 responses were submitted between 24 April and 6 June 2025. The Ministry published a summary of the comments on 11 September 2025.

11.2.2026 | VR-Group Plc and Suomen Ostoliikennekalusto Oy announced today that they have signed an asset purchase agreement concerning the rolling stock used in passenger rail services funded by the government. The rolling stock will be transferred to Suomen Ostoliikennekalusto's ownership from the beginning of March.

9.10.2025 | The rolling stock company Suomen Ostoliikennekalusto Oy will be transferred from VR Group to direct state ownership and ownership steering at the Prime Minister’s Office. The transfer of ownership is a significant step in preparing for the competitive tendering of rail transport services.

22.8.2024 | The responsibility for the ownership steering of Arctia Ltd will be transferred from the Ownership Steering Department of the Prime Minister’s Office to the Ministry of Transport and Communications. On 22 August 2024, the Government issued a decree amending the Decree on the Ministry of Transport and Communications and a decree amending the Decree on the Prime Minister's Office.

27.6.2025 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications is inviting comments on a draft government proposal for a new act on scrapping premiums for passenger cars for the years 2026–2027. The deadline for submitting comments is 5 August 2025.

15.5.2025 | On 15 May 2025, the Government granted advance approval of the change in effective control of MTV Oy. The Government will not cancel the programme licences of MTV Oy for television broadcasting despite a change in the effective control of the company.

27.6.2025 | On 27 June 2025, the President of the Republic approved an Act on legislation complementing the European Media Freedom Act, EMFA. The Act will enter into force on 8 August 2025. The EMFA aims to safeguard the pluralism and independence of media services in the EU and reinforce the common rules for the functioning of the internal market for media services.

18.10.2024 | On 18 October 2024, Minister of Transport, Communications and the Interior Lulu Ranne signed a decision to alter the composition of Arctia Ltd’s board of directors. A new special assignment for Arctia will also be incorporated into the company’s articles of association.

16.4.2025 | On 16 April 2025, the Government submitted to Parliament a proposal on legislation complementing the European Media Freedom Act, EMFA. The Act aims to safeguard the pluralism and independence of media services in the EU and reinforce the common rules for the functioning of the internal market for media services.

2.1.2025 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications is requesting comments on a draft government proposal on legislation to supplement the European Media Freedom Act (EMFA). The deadline for submitting comments is 14 February 2025.

7.8.2024 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications is prepared to officially start the drafting of amendments to the Act on the Finnish Broadcasting Company to increase the openness of the company. The amendments are based on the Government Programme.

7.11.2024 | On 7 November 2024, the Government granted radio programme licences for a new nationwide frequency block 26, and for 20 individual frequencies in a supplementary application round. Licences were issued to different parts of Finland, including to local radio broadcasting operators.

31.8.2017 | Cinia Group Oy, a Finnish company specialising in information and communications technology, will be transferred from Governia Oy to direct state ownership and under the ownership steering of the Ministry of Transport and Communications. The Government adopted the decision on 31 August 2017. The transfer will come into force on 1 September 2017.
