On 18 October 2024, Minister of Transport, Communications and the Interior Lulu Ranne signed a decision to alter the composition of Arctia Ltd’s board of directors. A new special assignment for Arctia will also be incorporated into the company’s articles of association.

Kari Savolainen will be appointed as chair of Arctia’s board. Savolainen also chairs the board of Airport Rail Ltd and previously served as Finavia’s managing director.

Leena Mörttinen, Permanent Under-Secretary for International and Financial Markets Affairs, will be appointed as a new member of the board.

Vice-Chair Matti-Mikael Koskinen and members Kati Pallasaho and Jukka Hölsä will continue on the board.

Chair Mats Rosin and members Sinikka Mustakari and Regina Sippel will resign from the board. The Ministry of Transport and Communications thanks them for their strong contributions to the company’s operations and to the development of safe and efficient services for shipping.

The changes to Arctia’s board seek to ensure that the company will be better able to meet the demands of its new special assignment.

Arctia Ltd’s new special assignment is, ‘to ensure winter navigation that meets the transport needs of Finnish business and industry and safeguards security of supply, with a focus on cost-efficient and low-risk ice breaking in the northern parts of the Baltic Sea, on enabling military mobility, and on providing hydrographic surveying, fairway maintenance and planning services related to the preparedness and readiness of the Finnish Navy under any circumstances’.
