12.6.2025 | The Government proposed stricter legislation concerning micromobility on 12 June 2025. The amendments to the Road Traffic Act and the Vehicles Act would enter into force on 17 June 2025 and the amendments to the Act on Transport Services and the Act on the Transfer of Vehicles on 1 August 2025. The aim of the proposal is to improve the safety of electric scooters and other micromobility vehicles.

The Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom allocated 3.5 million euros in grants to a total of 12 projects. The selected projects aim to make walking and cycling a more convenient and attractive option as well as improve safety.

23.9.2021 | On 23 September 2021, the Government submitted a draft proposal to Parliament to nationally implement the reformed directive on road infrastructure safety management. The goal is to expand the monitoring of road safety to reduce the number of fatalities and serious accidents in road traffic.

20.5.2021 | The Government adopted the first National Transport System Plan for 2021-2032 (Traffic 12 Plan) and submitted it in the form of a report to Parliament on 15 April 2021. The report is currently under consideration by Parliament.

How to improve the preconditions for increasing walking and cycling across Finland? The Ministry of Transport and Communications will establish a National stakeholder forum for walking and cycling for the present government term. The first forum will be held on 7 September 2020.

The purpose of the new act is to improve the flow and safety of traffic and create a favourable environment for digitalisation and safe automation of transport.
