22.12.2025 | On 22 December 2025, the Ministry of Transport and Communications has ratified decrees, supported by the Finance Committee, which define the fees for Traficom’s services. The decrees will enter into force on 1 January 2026.

3.9.2024 | The 2025 budget proposal of Prime Minister Orpo's Government bolsters conditions for economic growth. Economic growth driven by the private sector will also serve to secure the financing base for central government finances. The fast-acting measures to curb indebtedness that were decided on due to the difficult situation in central government finances will move forward.

21.11.2024 | On 21 November 2024, the Government submitted to Parliament its proposal to amend the budget proposal for 2025. The Government proposes funding for the Digirail project, which involves the modernisation of Finland's rail traffic control system, and several rail, urban tramline and road projects. The Government also proposes EUR 400 million for the construction of West Railway, subject to certain conditions.

19.12.2024 | Finland’s Central Government and other operators are applying for a total of approximately EUR 73.36 million in financial support for 11 transport projects from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) for Transport. In addition, EU funding is being sought for the acquisition of a new icebreaker. The Ministerial Finance Committee decided in favour of the applications on 19 December 2024.

The 82nd session of the Committee continued negotiations on global measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from marine transport. Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communications Minna Kivimäki attended the session on 30 September–2 October 2024.

5.4.2018 | The Government proposes that the current traffic control and management services by the Finnish Transport Agency be incorporated into a limited liability company and the functions be transferred to a new state-owned company with a special assignment. The Government submitted a legislative proposal on the matter to Parliament on 5 April 2018. The proposed act is scheduled to enter into force on 1 January 2019.
