Finland is actively involved in international efforts to keep shipping and the marine environment safe in the Baltic Sea.

2.9.2025 | The Government of Prime Minister Petteri Orpo has reached a decision on its budget proposal for 2026. The Government’s decisions aim to support economic growth, which is picking up. Supporting economic growth and continuing responsible fiscal management is necessary to ensure the security of people in Finland and safeguard their access to important services going forward.

6.7.2023 | On 6 July 2023, the Government submitted a Union communication to Parliament on the Commission's proposal for a Cyber Solidarity Regulation and amendments to the Cyber Security Regulation. The aim of the Cyber Solidarity Regulation is to improve the joint detection of cyber incidents by the EU and situational awareness of cyber incidents and the EU’s ability to respond to cyber incidents.

28.10.2019 | The World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC) takes place in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt as of 28 October. The conference decides on the future use of radio spectrum. The WRC aims at facilitating rational use of radio spectrum and providing a suitable environment for future services. Finland participates in the decision-making to shape future communications services at a global scale.

6.10.2005 | On 6 October the Finnish Government issued a bill to Parliament on amending the Act on the Protection of Privacy in Electronic Communications, which would allow the authorities to issue emergency alerts to the public by text message. An alert message could be sent to mobile phones located in a specific region in cases of poisonous fallout or a natural disaster, for example. So far such alerts have been broadcast via radio and television. The Act is meant to enter into force on 1 April 2006.
