The Finnish Internet Forum (FIF), a topical event on Internet-related issues, will be held at the auditorium of the Finnish Parliament Annex on Wednesday, February 25 from 9.00 to 14.00. Coordinated by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, the sixth Finnish Internet Forum is organized by the Ministry of Transport and Communications and the Parliamentary Committee for the Future along with representatives of various sectors of society from civil society, the business world and the State administration.

The event serves as a meeting place and a platform for discussion of Internet-related issues with economic, legal and political significance. This year the FIF explores industrial Internet issues and discusses current attacks blocking Internet service access in the light of events that took place at the end of 2014.

The morning panel highlights the possibilities and challenges brought by the industrial Internet. The industrial Internet is one of today’s greatest turning points, both in Finland and globally; it is described as the Third Industrial Revolution. The panel will consider what the industrial exploitation of the Internet requires of both society and enterprises.

The afternoon panel is devoted to attacks blocking Internet service access, which have recently been targeted at Finnish banks. What can be done to prevent similar situations? Is society prepared for prolonged attacks of this type?

The event will be opened by Päivi Lipponen, Chair of the Parliamentary Committee for the Future, after which Member of Parliament Oras Tynkkynen will take the floor. In addition, Director Päivi Antikainen of the Unit for Internet Services at the Ministry of Transport and Communications will give a talk on the development of digitalisation in Finland.

The event can be followed live online or later as a recording at http://bit.ly/fif2015

One can also participate in the discussion on Twitter: #FIForum.
