27.6.2025 | On 27 June 2025, the President of the Republic approved an Act on legislation complementing the European Media Freedom Act, EMFA. The Act will enter into force on 8 August 2025. The EMFA aims to safeguard the pluralism and independence of media services in the EU and reinforce the common rules for the functioning of the internal market for media services.

16.4.2025 | On 16 April 2025, the Government submitted to Parliament a proposal on legislation complementing the European Media Freedom Act, EMFA. 2.1.2025 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications is requesting comments on a draft government proposal on legislation to supplement the European Media Freedom Act (EMFA). The deadline for submitting comments is 14 February 2025.

5.10.2023 | The Government proposes amendments to the Act on Transport Services. The amendments would allow to insert the railway station accessibility data into the European Railway Station Accessibility Database, ERSAD, laid down by a European Union Regulation.

7.9.2023 | Statsrådet lämnade den 7 september 2023 en U-skrivelse till riksdagen om Europeiska kommissionens förslag till förordning om harmonisering av redovisningen av transporttjänsters utsläpp av växthusgaser. 

2.5.2023 | Liikenne- ja viestintäministeriö pyytää lausuntoja luonnoksesta hallituksen esitykseksi liikenteen palveluista annetun lain muuttamisesta. Muutosten on tarkoitus tulla voimaan 1.1.2024.

22.12.2023 | Ändringar som träder i kraft vid ingången av år 2024 inom kommunikationsministeriets förvaltningsområde.

2.5.2023 | Kommunikationsministeriet begär utlåtande om utkastet till regeringens proposition med förslag till lag om ändring av lagen om transportservice. Ändringarna avses träda i kraft den 1 januari 2024.

Detta framgår av en utredning om logistikens informationsmiljöer som kommunikationsministeriet låtit göra. Utvecklingen ska vara nära kopplad till tillgången på och utnyttjandet av de databaser som myndigheterna upprätthåller och den information som samlas vid myndighetskommunikation.

11.2.2021 | The EU Commission has made a proposal to update the Directive on security of network and information systems (NIS Directive) to reflect the changed cyber environment. The proposed directive would impose new obligations on Member States. The Government supports the objectives of the proposal and considers it important that the proposal has effects that strengthen cybersecurity and data protection. In addition, the Government considers it important that the proposal also preserves national leeway.

30.9.2020 | Amendments to the Act on Strong Electronic Identification and Electronic Signatures have been sent out for comments. It is proposed that the regulation on the maximum price for the so-called chaining of initial identification data be continued by a fixed period of two years.The current regulation remains in force for two years. In future, the maximum price for the initial identification would be three cents.

15.12.2020 | The interim report of the cross-sectoral working group surveying the data protection and security of sectors of key importance for the functioning of society has been submitted for statements on 15 December 2020. The working group's main observation was that good data security culture is created as a result of data security requirements in the legislation, not on the basis of instructions or other voluntary measures.
