10.10.2024 | The Government proposes funding for the establishment of the Finnish Space Situational Awareness Centre. Funding is proposed for the administrative branches of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. The Ministry of Transport and Communications share of the funding amounts to EUR 411 000.  

21.11.2024 | The Government proposes that on 22 November 2024 the President of the Republic approve the acts for establishing the Finnish Space Situational Awareness Centre.

27.5.2024 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications requests comments on the draft government proposal for an act amending the Act on the Finnish Meteorological Institute and for an Act amending the Act on the Defence Forces. The amendments would enable the establishment of a space situational awareness centre in Finland. The deadline for submitting comments is 30 June 2024.

3.5.2023 | On 3 May 2023, a steering group appointed by the Ministry of Transport and Communications to examine the possible establishment of a Finnish space situational awareness centre issued a report recommending that the centre be established. It could be started by 2026.

19.5.2025 | A national cyber exercise (“KYHA”) brought together more than 120 central government employees to improve their technical skills and mutual cooperation against cyber attacks. Held at the IT Institute of the JAMK University of Applied Sciences in Jyväskylä on 12–16 May 2025, this cyber exercise, the second one this year, turned out to be a great success.

6.7.2023 | On 6 July 2023, the Government submitted a Union communication to Parliament on the Commission's proposal for a Cyber Solidarity Regulation and amendments to the Cyber Security Regulation. The aim of the Cyber Solidarity Regulation is to improve the joint detection of cyber incidents by the EU and situational awareness of cyber incidents and the EU’s ability to respond to cyber incidents.

The European Commission’s annual Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI) monitors the digital performance of EU Member States and tracks their progress in digitalisation.
