  1. The Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) will meet in London from 27 April to 1 May 2026. IMO Member States are expected to decide the next steps in negotiations on reducing greenhouse gas emissions from shipping. Other topics to be discussed include specifications to the rules on the carbon intensity and energy efficiency of vessels, the regulation of ballast water and guidance on reducing underwater noise.

  3. 22.5.2025 | On 20 May 2025, the European Commission published a delegated regulation that creates a separate vehicle sub-group for extra-heavy combination lorries to the EU’s CO2 emission performance standards regulation for the calculation of CO2 emission targets of vehicle manufacturers.   5. 5.10.2022 | The central government will implement an extensive energy saving programme in its premises with the aim to help Finland overcome the current challenging energy situation. The Ministerial working group on developing the digital transformation, the data economy and public administration discussed the matter on 5 October. Minister of Local Government Sirpa Paatero fully took over as chair of the ministerial working group for the remainder of the government term.

  6. 22.1.2024 | The European Member States, Parliament and the Commission have reached a provisional agreement on a regulation on CO2 emission standards for heavy-duty vehicles (HDVs). The emissions reduction targets for new heavy-duty vehicles will gradually tighten and the scope of application of the regulation will widen. The accord was achieved in tripartite negotiations on 18 January 2024.

  7. 30.9.2024 | The Marine Environment Protection Committee of the International Maritime Organization convenes in London from 30 September to 4 October 2024. The 82nd session of the Committee continues the negotiations on global actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from shipping. The topics include the package of a possible fuel standard and a price for carbon emissions.   10. 16.10.2023 | The EU ministers responsible for the environment and climate change issues will meet in Luxembourg on 16 October to discuss the EU’s objectives for the negotiations at the UN Climate Change Conference to be held in Dubai. The conclusions to be adopted by the Environment Council will constitute the EU’s objective for the Climate Change Conference. Finland’s representative at the Environment Council will be Minister of Climate and the Environment Kai Mykkänen.

The Act will enter into force on 20 February.
