27.5.2024 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications requests comments on the draft government proposal for an act amending the Act on the Finnish Meteorological Institute and for an Act amending the Act on the Defence Forces. The amendments would enable the establishment of a space situational awareness centre in Finland. The deadline for submitting comments is 30 June 2024.

3.5.2023 | On 3 May 2023, a steering group appointed by the Ministry of Transport and Communications to examine the possible establishment of a Finnish space situational awareness centre issued a report recommending that the centre be established. It could be started by 2026.

24.11.2023 | The first National Transport System Plan, Transport 12, covers the years 2021 to 2032. The Minis-try of Transport and Communications monitors the progress of the measures included in the Transport 12 plan on an annual basis. The second summary report on this was published on 23 November 2023.

On 9 June 2026, in connection with the EU Transport Council meeting, Finland joined a Joint Declaration of Intent by Member States regarding large-scale cross-border testbeds for autonomous vehicles. The aim is to promote the testing of automated driving systems in the EU.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications requests statements on the draft national programme on alternative transport fuels distribution infrastructure. Comments can be submitted until 8 September 2024.

The WRC aims at facilitating rational use of radio spectrum and providing a suitable environment for future services. 11.6.2025 | At the seminar held on 11 June 2025, the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency presented the main results of a study on extending the standard track gauge commonly used in Europe to northern Finland. According to the study, extending the narrower track gauge to Finland will primarily benefit military mobility.

23.10.2013 | The Finnish Meteorological Institute, which falls under the administrative sector of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, is in a consortium which has taken on the task of updating the greenhouse gas emission report of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The aim of the update is to get information that is as detailed and up to date as possible on the real emissions from maritime transport.

16.12.2025 | At the Energy Council meeting on 15 December 2025, Member States of the European Union adopted a partial general approach on the proposed regulation establishing Connecting Europe Facility for 2028–2034. Finland is in favour of the regulation’s emphasis on military mobility.

12.4.2023 | On 12 April 2023, the Ministry of Transport and Communications published a report on the opportunities provided by the introduction of the standard European track gauge in Finland and on the related impacts. Preliminary estimates show that the costs of the considered alternative implementations are significant in relation to the benefits. 

24.4.2025 | The Government has proposed that EUR 20 million be allocated in the General Govern-ment Fiscal Plan for 2026–2029 for a planning project to extend the European track gauge from Sweden to Finland.
