TEN-T funding support for Helsinki-Riihimäki rail line
Finnish transport projects are receiving TEN-T financial support from the EU. A total of five projects are receiving the funding. One of the Finnish projects being funded is the planning of projects for improving the transport capacity and upgrading the level of service on the Helsinki-Riihimäki section of track. About EUR 2.5 million in support is to be granted for the planning. Transport projects by Finnish players are getting financial support of about EUR 21.7 million.
The TEN-T Financial Assistance Committee has approved the proposal for funding the TEN-T projects The Commission will make its final funding decisions in the autumn of 2014.
The last application round of the 2007-2008 financial period concludes in the spring of 2014. The TEN-T budget for the whole funding period has been more than EUR 8 billion. The total amount of financial assistance available in the last round of applications for the funding period is EUR 350 million.
In the autumn of 2014 the application period for the 2014-2020 period for the new Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) financial instrument will open up. The CEF instrument comprises the sectors of transport (TEN-T), energy (TEN-EN) and telecommunications (TEN-TELE). The budget for the upcoming round of funding is EUR 11 billion for the programme lasting several years, and EUR 930 million for the one-year programme.
The pan-European TEN-T transport network comprises highway, railway, internal waterway, and flight connections in the European Union. The shared goal is the promotion of the EU internal market and regional convergence, and a sustainable transport system. Another important goal is the improvement of regional competitiveness and employment.
