  1. The revised Road Traffic Act will enter into force next Monday, 1 June 2020. The new Act includes all the provisions concerning guidance of people's behaviour in transport. The purpose of the new act is to improve the flow and safety of traffic and create a favourable environment for digitalisation and safe automation of transport.

  7. 13.11.2025 | The Government proposes that the President of the Republic approve amendments to the Rail Transport Act and the Act on Transport Services on 14 November 2025. The amendments will enhance the safety and security of urban rail transport and allow more time to procure rolling stock that meets EU requirements for use in the forest and chemicals industries.

  9. 18.4.2024 | The Government gave a proposal to Parliament by which the amendments to the Road Traffic Convention would be approved and brought into force. The main objective of the amendments is to coordinate the International Road Traffic Convention with the current UN Regulations concerning lighting devices.

  11. 19.6.2024 | Finland has won the European Transport Safety Council’s (ETSC) Road Safety Prize for 2024. The prize was awarded for the long-term and effective road safety work and the comprehensive strategy and measures to improve the safety of all road users. This is the first time Finland receives the prize.

  12. 4.9.2024 | The Government will continue to reduce the growth of repair backlog in transport infrastructure. In its budget session on 3 September 2024, the Government agreed to propose EUR 200 million for reducing the repair backlog in 2025.

  13. The Ministry of Transport and Communications has launched a legislative project to improve the operating conditions for the transport sector. The aim of the project is to further specify the EU regulation concerning road cabotage and make the regulations easier to comply with and supervise. In addition, the project promotes the use of vehicles powered by alternative fuels with a total mass not exceeding 4,250 kg in goods transport.
