More information about traffic restrictions on the Saimaa Canal maintenance road in a transport working group meeting
Deputy Transport Minister of the Russian Federation Sergei Aristov has confirmed the earlier information about the Transport Ministry's decision to restrict bus and coach traffic on the Saimaa Canal maintenance road from 11 December 2017 to 31 March 2018. The matter was discussed at a meeting of the Finnish-Russian transport working group in Helsinki on 14 December.
The restrictions apply to all bus and coach traffic, including international regular service. They apply to traffic flows from both directions, from Finland and Russia.
During the time of the traffic restrictions, a detour of the Brusnitchnoe border crossing point is intended to go through Torfjanovka and Svetogorsk border crossing points.
The restrictions will give rise to changes also in Finland. Instead of the Nuijamaa border crossing point, bus and coach traffic will be directed to Imatra and Vaalimaa.
According to Minister Aristov, the Russian Ministry of Transport will monitor the effects of the restrictions and, if necessary, reconsider the decision. The Russian Ministry of Transport justifies the restrictions by traffic safety reasons.
