Finland’s Ministry of Transport and Communications published a Joint Nordic Strategy for Transport System Preparedness on 11 March 2026. The strategy was handed over to the Nordic transport ministers in Rovaniemi where the ministers also issued a joint statement. 13.11.2025 | The Government proposes that the President of the Republic approve amendments to the Rail Transport Act and the Act on Transport Services on 14 November 2025. The Ministry of Transport and Communications has launched a legislative project to improve the operating conditions for the transport sector. The aim of the project is to further specify the EU regulation concerning road cabotage and make the regulations easier to comply with and supervise. The Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) met in London on 7–11 April 2025. After challenging negotiations, the Committee’s 83rd session reached a provisional agreement on measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from ships. 1.6.2023 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications has invited comments on the assessment memorandum concerning passenger rail services in the 2030s. The consultation period ran from 3 April to 19 May 2023. The memorandum provides a knowledge base for making decisions on the organisation of passenger rail traffic in the 2030s. It also includes an assessment of the take-up of electric and gas cars. According to the report, the targets set for 2020 have for the most part been achieved.
