6.11.2025 | The Assembly of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) will elect a new Council for the forthcoming two-year term in November-December. Finland is seeking re-election to the Council. The Ministry of Transport and Communications has invited Finnish maritime education institutions to serve as advisers to the Finnish delegation at the Assembly. 21.11.2024 | The Government proposes that on 22 November 2024 the President of the Republic approve the acts for establishing the Finnish Space Situational Awareness Centre.

10.10.2024 | The Government proposes funding for the establishment of the Finnish Space Situational Awareness Centre. Funding is proposed for the administrative branches of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. The Ministry of Transport and Communications share of the funding amounts to EUR 411 000.  

30.9.2025 | Almost 200 persons and eight organisations participated in the national cyber exercise of the security authorities organised at the Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences (Jamk) on 22–26 September 2025.

10.4.2024 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications has joined as a founding member to the Data Spaces Alliance Finland cooperation network. The Alliance brings together the leading Finnish data business organisations. The network is composed of 22 companies, public bodies and research institutes.

27.5.2024 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications requests comments on the draft government proposal for an act amending the Act on the Finnish Meteorological Institute and for an Act amending the Act on the Defence Forces. The amendments would enable the establishment of a space situational awareness centre in Finland. The deadline for submitting comments is 30 June 2024.

2.9.2025 | The Government of Prime Minister Petteri Orpo has reached a decision on its budget proposal for 2026. The Government’s decisions aim to support economic growth, which is picking up. Supporting economic growth and continuing responsible fiscal management is necessary to ensure the security of people in Finland and safeguard their access to important services going forward.

3.5.2023 | On 3 May 2023, a steering group appointed by the Ministry of Transport and Communications to examine the possible establishment of a Finnish space situational awareness centre issued a report recommending that the centre be established. It could be started by 2026.

3.9.2024 | The 2025 budget proposal of Prime Minister Orpo's Government bolsters conditions for economic growth. Economic growth driven by the private sector will also serve to secure the financing base for central government finances. The fast-acting measures to curb indebtedness that were decided on due to the difficult situation in central government finances will move forward.

Governor Inslee is making a return visit following the visit of Minister of Transport and Communications Timo Harakka to Washington state in November 2021.

19.5.2025 | A national cyber exercise (“KYHA”) brought together more than 120 central government employees to improve their technical skills and mutual cooperation against cyber attacks. Held at the IT Institute of the JAMK University of Applied Sciences in Jyväskylä on 12–16 May 2025, this cyber exercise, the second one this year, turned out to be a great success.

10.2.2025 | Municipalities and operators involved in Finland's critical infrastructure took part in the first national cyber exercise of the year at Jamk University of Applied Sciences between 3 and 7 February 2025. The exercise brought together cybersecurity, management and communications professionals especially from the north of Finland and Northern Ostrobothnia.

8.3.2017 | Rolls-Royce, a dynamic international operator in the marine industry, has announced that it will centralise its remote-controlled and autonomous ships research and development centre in Finland. "From the perspective of Finland's economy and maritime industry, this is significant and highly welcomed news," says Anne Berner, Minister of Transport and Communications.
