  7. The Ministry of Transport and Communications has launched a legislative project to improve the operating conditions for the transport sector. The aim of the project is to further specify the EU regulation concerning road cabotage and make the regulations easier to comply with and supervise.   11. Finland’s Ministry of Transport and Communications published a Joint Nordic Strategy for Transport System Preparedness on 11 March 2026. The strategy was handed over to the Nordic transport ministers in Rovaniemi where the ministers also issued a joint statement. As part of their meeting, the ministers will also visit the multinational Cold Response 26 military exercise in Lapland on 12 March 2026.

  13. The Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) met in London on 7–11 April 2025. After challenging negotiations, the Committee’s 83rd session reached a provisional agreement on measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from ships.   16. 23.4.2026 | On 23 April 2026, the Government submitted amendments to the Act on Electronic Communication Services for approval. The amendments apply to equipment that interfere with radio communications, so-called jammers. The act is scheduled to enter into force on 1 July 2026.

Following complex negotiations and a rare vote, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) decided to postpone the final adoption of the long-discussed regulation package on maritime transport emissions by at least one year. The decision means that the proposed regulation will not come into force as originally scheduled in March 2027.

  18. 24.4.2026 | The Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) will meet in London from 27 April to 1 May 2026. IMO Member States are expected to decide the next steps in negotiations on reducing greenhouse gas emissions from shipping. Other topics to be discussed include specifications to the rules on the carbon intensity and energy efficiency of vessels, the regulation of ballast water and guidance on reducing underwater noise.
