13.6.2024 | The President of the Republic approved amendments to the Act on Electronic Communications Services on 13 June 2024. The amendments concern two acts but in practice affect the validity of certain provisions of the Act on Electronic Communications Services. The amendments will enter into force before the validity period of the current provisions expires at the end of June and in the beginning of July 2024.

The must-carry obligation to transfer radio programmes would be removed from the act. The deadline for submitting comments is 15 March 2024.

The goal of the regulation is to create an internal European telecommunications market.

31.5.2013 | Finland's Minister of Housing and Communications Pia Viitanen considers the roaming charges initiative of Commissioner Neelie Kroes to be interesting, yet controversial. Speaking to the European Parliament on Thursday 30 May, Digital Agenda Commissioner Neelie Kroes said that telephone operators should abolish roaming charges, i.e. billing customers travelling within EU area for internet use, by the end of next year.

The prohibition, which was originally set for a fixed term, is proposed to be extended by three years. The Government justifies the extension by the facts that the prohibition is functioning and that misleading sales have decreased.
