On 27 June 2024, the Government appointed the Advisory Board for Network Security for a new term of office. The Advisory Board aims to assess and improve national security in communications networks. A working group appointed by the Ministry of Transport and Communications has started its work to promote 6G communications technologies. The aim is to prepare a national 6G roadmap and to encourage cooperation and exchange of information in the field of future-generation wireless network technologies. The European Commission has selected communications projects to receive funding from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF). In the fourth round of calls for proposals under the CEF Digital programme, five projects coordinated by Finnish operators received a total of around EUR 4.67 million in funding. On 17 June 2026, the European Commission published the annual State of the Digital Decade report. According to the report, Finland is a digital frontrunner with strong digital skills, agile enterprises and leadership in artificial intelligence and supercomputing. On 7 July 2026, the Digital Decade Board published its opinion ‘A common orientation for the review of the Digital Decade Policy Programme’. On 2 July 2026, the Government submitted to Parliament its proposal for amending the Private Roads Act. The amendments would simplify the administration and operations of private road maintenance associations, strengthen road shareholders' protection under the law and promote road safety on private roads. Finnish operators apply for a total of EUR 13.76 million in funding from the European Commission’s Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) for seven communications projects. Finland has been awarded EUR 462,000 in EU funding to advance road safety under a European Commission call launched in late 2025. A total of approximately EUR 17.6 million in funding from the European Commission’s Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) is being sought for Finnish-led projects. In addition, approximately EUR 8.6 million in funding is being sought for Swedish-led projects that involve Finnish operators. Finland seeks EU funding for subsea cable repair capacity - Ministry of Transport and Communications
A Finnish-led project has applied for EUR 9.55 million in European Commission funding to reinforce subsea cable repair capacity. The project is coordinated by the Finnish National Emergency Supply Agency and involves partners from Finland, Sweden and Estonia. The EU Transport and Telecommunications Council will convene in Luxembourg on 8-9 June 2026. The Ministry of Transport and Communications requests views on a draft government proposal to amend the Act on the Transport System and Highways, the Rail Transport Act and certain related acts. The aim is to improve the security and reliability of the transport network and to streamline the processes of planning and implementing the transport infrastructure.
