30.12.2024 | On 30 December 2024, the President of the Republic of Finland ratified amendments to the Act on Environmental Protection in Maritime Transport and the related acts. The amendments implement the Government Programme, EU regulations and regulations of the International Maritime Organisation IMO. 

1.3.2019 | The Regulation on tyre labelling and the long-term strategy (LTS) for a low-carbon economy will be the key themes of the EU Energy Council meeting in Brussels on 4 March 2019. Kimmo Tiilikainen, Minister of the Environment, Energy and Housing, will represent Finland at the meeting.

27.11.2023 | On 20–24 November 2023, a high-level conference of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) convened in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and outlined the organisation's global vision for cleaner sources of energy, including sustainable and low-carbon aviation fuels. ICAO aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. 

17.10.2024 | On 17 October 2024, the Government submitted a legislative proposal to Parliament on amending the Act on Environmental Protection in Maritime Transport and the related acts. The proposed amendments would implement the Government Programme, EU regulation and regulation of the International Maritime Organization IMO.

20.11.2023 | A high-level conference of the International Civil Aviation Organization, ICAO, will discuss the organisation's vision for cleaner sources of energy, including sustainable and low-carbon aviation fuels, on 20–24 November 2023 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. 

25.4.2024 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications invites comments on the draft proposal on amendments to the Act on Environmental Protection in Maritime Transport and certain related acts. The deadline for submitting comments is 20 June 2024.

15.3.2024 | The International Maritime Organization Marine Environment Protection Committee convenes in London on 18–22 March 2024. The committee’s 81st session will discuss global action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from shipping.

2.11.2021 | Finland has joined the Leaders' Declaration on Forests and Land Use of the Glasgow Climate Change Conference, whereby more than one hundred countries commit to stopping deforestation by 2030. President of the Republic Sauli Niinistö will speak at the publication event of the Declaration on Forests in Glasgow on Tuesday.

22.11.2021 | The Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) will meet on 22-26 November 2021. The aim of the remote meeting is to discuss ways to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from international shipping and to discuss a more stringent emission reduction target for 2050. Finland is in favour of raising the global target for reducing emissions by 2050.

At the meeting of energy ministers, Finland will be represented by Minister of Economic Affairs Mika Lintilä and Minister of Transport and Communications Timo Harakka at the meeting of transport ministers.

The Conference is part of Finland's Presidency of the Council of the European Union, and it aims to offer new insights into development and digital solutions in the field of transport and mobility.

26.5.2021 | On 26 May, the Ministry of Finance published Finland's Sustainable Growth Programme and the Recovery and Resilience Plan it includes. The Government is due to adopt the programme on 27 May.
