28.5.2025 | On 28 May 2025, the Finnish Government submitted a Union communication to Parliament regarding the European Commission’s proposal for the so-called Roadworthiness Package. In principle, the Government supports the proposal’s aim to promote road safety and reduce the negative environmental impacts of transport.

14.5.2019 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications has circulated for public commenting proposals for acts under which Finland would adopt the Convention on Liability and Compensation for Damage in Connection with the Carriage of Hazardous and Noxious Substances by Sea (HNS Convention). The adoption of the Convention would increase shipowners' liability for the carriage of hazardous and noxious substances by sea and ensure that persons suffering damages are compensated more promptly and effectively.

The ship, with its length of 105 metres and width of 19 metres, became the world's largest vessel designed to use environmentally friendly bio-oils as fuel.

In addition to improving traffic safety and reducing environmental impacts, the goal is to standardise the inspection procedures and standards in different member states. According to assessments, technical faults in vehicles are a major cause of accidents in the EU area.
