In line with the Programme of Prime Minister Petteri Orpo's Government, Finland's Cyber Security Strategy has been revised to respond to the changed security environment. The strategy will make cyber security a more integral part of Finland's concept of comprehensive security.

The EU Transport and Telecommunications Council will convene in Luxembourg on 8-9 June 2026. Finland will be represented by Minister of Transport and Communications Lulu Ranne on the Transport Council, and by State Secretary Marjo Lindgren on the Telecommunications Council.

On 28 January 2026, the Ministry of Transport and Communications published an interim review of the project on security and new economic growth from communication networks, known as the TUUTTI project. The review outlines the project’s progress and presents the key findings to date.

27.10.2025 | Tero Jokilehto, Senior Ministerial Adviser at the Finnish Ministry of Transport and Communications, has been elected chair of the Inland Surface Transport Group for the next three years. The Inland Surface Transport Group is a sub-group of the Transport Group, which is one of the planning groups under NATO’s Resilience Committee. 

11.3.2026 | Finland’s Ministry of Transport and Communications published a Joint Nordic Strategy for Transport System Preparedness on 11 March 2026. The strategy was handed over to the Nordic transport ministers in Rovaniemi where the ministers also issued a joint statement. As part of their meeting, the ministers will also visit the multinational Cold Response 26 military exercise in Lapland on 12 March 2026.

24.2.2026 | Minister of Transport and Communications Lulu Ranne will travel to Brussels on 24–26 February 2026 to meet key representatives of the European Parliament and of the European Commission.

12.11.2024 | Tero Jokilehto, Senior Ministerial Adviser at the Finnish Ministry of Transport and Communications, has been elected vice-chair of the Civil Aviation Group for the next three years. The Civil Aviation Group is a sub-group of the Transport Group, which is one of the planning groups under NATO’s Resilience Committee. 

20.5.2024 | A meeting of NATO planning groups for transport will be held in Tampere, Finland, on 20–24 May 2024. The meeting will discuss resilience in transport and the cooperation between civil and military transport.

5.6.2024 | NATO’s Civil Communications Planning Group (CCPG) will hold a workshop in Helsinki on 5–6 June 2024. The workshop will discuss emerging and disruptive technologies. It is organised by the Finnish Ministry of Transport and Communications.

29.4.2024 | Minister of Transport and Communications Lulu Ranne will visit Narvik, Norway, from 29 to 30 April 2024. Together with the Norwegian and Swedish transport ministers, she will observe NATO’s Immediate Response 2024 defence exercise, which will practise military mobility and reception of military support.

11.6.2025 | At the seminar held on 11 June 2025, the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency presented the main results of a study on extending the standard track gauge commonly used in Europe to northern Finland. According to the study, extending the narrower track gauge to Finland will primarily benefit military mobility.

17.3.2025 | Minister of Transport and Communications Lulu Ranne will attend the informal meeting of EU transport ministers in Warsaw, Poland, on 17 and 18 March 2025. The meeting was convened by the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

4.6.2025 | The EU Transport and Telecommunications Council will convene in Luxembourg from 5 to 6 June 2025. Minister of Transport and Communications Lulu Ranne will represent Finland at the meeting.

24.4.2025 | The Government has proposed that EUR 20 million be allocated in the General Govern-ment Fiscal Plan for 2026–2029 for a planning project to extend the European track gauge from Sweden to Finland.

15.10.2024 | Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communications Minna Kivimäki will visit Brussels on 16–18 October 2024 to influence various EU processes. During the visit, Kivimäki will meet European Commission representatives and Finnish MPEs.

30.4.2024 | On 30 April 2024, Minister of Transport and Communications Lulu Ranne, Norwegian Minister of Transport Jon-Ivar Nygård and Swedish Minister of Infrastructure Andreas Carlson signed a joint statement on developing the transport system.

13.3.2024 | Minister of Transport and Communications Lulu Ranne visited the Nordic Response 24 defence exercise in Lapland on 10–11 March 2024. Minister Ranne learnt about the activities of the Defence Forces, Nordic cooperation between the authorities and NATO-Nordic defence cooperation from the infrastructure perspective.

8.3.2024 | Minister of Transport and Communications Lulu Ranne will visit the Nordic Response 24 defence exercise in Lapland on 10–11 March 2024. This is the first time that Finland’s Minister of Transport and Communications will be present in an international military exercise. During her visit, Minister Ranne will learn about the activities of the Defence Forces and the Air Force, Nordic cooperation between the authorities and NATO-Nordic defence cooperation from the infrastructure perspective.
